Debian APUS etch installation
« on: November 25, 2007, 11:06:50 AM »
Hi, I've been trying to install Debian on my amiga after seeing this great screenshot on this site. I'd like to install the etch version. Sadly I cannot gather all the required files. Currently my installation process halts.

I've been able to locate the iso CD's of etch for the 604 PPC, which is good. But all the install images I find for APUS are referring to 'woody', which is an older version. But locating the .iso CD's for woody seems impossible.

Can someone tell me were to find a complete set of cd's AND the right installer root.bin file???

BTW: I've used APUS-red hat before, which works fine, I just want DEBIAN.

Edit: Woody is the unstable version, sarge is the stable one. Still no .ISO's to be found for PPC.
Update: I don't think etch is available for APUS, so that reduces my question to: Where can I download the woody .iso installation?. My A4000 doesn't have a network card (yet)

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for or not, but I found this:

http://archive.debian.org/debian-archive/dists/woody/main/disks-m68k/current/amiga/

last updated in 2002.

Etch seems not to support amiga :(

Nah, I don't think I can use that.
It's not for PPC and doesn't contain all the packages I need, just the installer stuff. I've already got the PPC installer package from that site for Apus. But I haven't found a CD or DVD download site were I can download all the software. You can for etch, but Amiga isn't supported for some reason.

Well, I've finally been able to locate the entire CD-set for Debian PPC 3.1_r5 (Sarge). And it's installed. X is partly working. But before I continue can any one tell me if it's ok to use partitions above the 4.3 Gb border on my HD without ruining the Amiga partitions?

I have a 40 Gb disk and still have an unused block above the 4.3 Gb border. (The base installation is below this border, on purpose as I don't know if it matters)

Can anyone clarify this?
