Is my Amiga getting faster?
« on: November 21, 2007, 09:00:04 PM »
Bogomips results show 98.68 before workbench and between 95.86 and 97.25 once fully booteed.

Does this sound about right for a Phase 5 Blizzard @ 50Mhz? I'm pretty sure it used to show around 80 - 84 MIPS...

Is my Amiga getting faster or what? Any ideas?

Cheers,

C

That, or you're getting slower.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

:-)

What are "normal" results for an 060 @ 50Mhz?

For the MIPS you related, you have a 060 CPU, right?

To improve the speed, simply swap the crystal on the board for a 56, 60 or 66MHz unit.

But beware: if you are using the SCSI kit, maybe you have problems with it (random crashes, memory problems, etc).
Goodbye people.

Lots of things can effect benchmarks somewhat, like whether your ROM is shadowed, patches, version of exec, etc.

As rkauer suggests, 66 mHz makes a huge improvement. Just make sure to add a little cooling, as some early revision 060's can get fairly warm at that speed.

Thanks for the replies, I guess it is a normal result, http://www.cyberelk.net/tim/parport/archive/hist/1092.html.

Must've just been setup really badly in the past ;-)

I know there are issues with the SCSI if I overclock, but does that affect the memory slot as well?

Cheers,

C

Yes, the overclock affects the SIMM too. But it's a trivial way to fix it: in the jumper section, select 70ns SIMMs, but instead use 60ns ones. Same for 70ns: select them as 80ns units.
