Amiga 1200 restoration now online.
« on: November 11, 2007, 05:10:47 PM »
I have finally finished creating the tutorial on restoring an Amiga 1200 back to its forma glory.

It guides you through all the steps needed, to strip it down, paint and rebuild.

It is image intensive so you will need a gfx card and a beefe miggy to view it. Or just use the PeeCee.

I hope you find it useful. I am just finishing off my PeeCee PSU to A500 PSU case conversion off.

This will be online soon.

See Tutorial here!

Hmmm some of the pointers are good but the hardrivemount with rubber bands is not the best "drill propper holes in the cradle" .One should also think about static electricity "such as prevent the mobo getting in contact with possible statics in e.g carpet). I usually dont take out all the keys if i want to wash it just leave them and put it in to the dishwasher although always remove the green electric sheet thing from the keyboard ...

@adonay

I thought the cradle had screw holes already.  I guess I am getting old and my memory could be rusty.  :-)

I am impressed the key decals survive the dishwasher.  I would never have considered this.

A lot of hdds, including that one, dont have the holes in the right place!

The mobo was left in the shield. the lacci band is fine, as long as you dont cover any vent holes. it also acts like suspension if you move the miggy.

A nice informative guide but I wouldn't fancy pulling off all the key tops! Surely this only increases the chances of damage/loosing parts? I've used methylated spirits and a cotton swab in the past with good results.
An Amiga is for life, not just for Christmas!

Plus a few more...

Certainly I pulled all the keytops from my A500 keyboard (smoker house), soaked them overnight, then scrubbed them individually with Simple Green cleaner. No problem. I'm still not brave enough to put electronics in the dishwasher although I frequently hear of people doing it.

wipe that mouse cord off! :-P

I'd say that you should just rescrew the hard drive back onto the cradle the way it was when they built it. That rubber band thing is pretty lame. :-/

Yeah, the rubber will deteriorate from heat & age and drop the drive out of the cradle in a few months.

I agree with the Rubber band debate, but overall a good job though.

We see how the band lasts. Like I said that is a new drive with no holes on the bottom to screw into. and of course the cradle as no sides so the hd cant be installed that way.

So it was either gaffer tape or the lacci band!
