The GP2X is excellent, and UAE runs surprisingly well on it! There are tons of really high quality games and apps for the GP2X, lots of emulators for old systems, and the commercial games available (Payback, Vektar, Wind & Water) are all worth buying.

Don't think - just buy!

Plus it's more powerful then the PSP at normal clock-speeds.

The GP2X rocks. I would say that the Amiga emulation isn't really fast enough for most stuff, though the latest version is much improved. The ST emulation is fantastic though.

One thing I'm really hoping for from the Craiginator is much faster Amiga emulation.

Another GP2X owner here.

Amiga emulation is pretty good, most games run well with a minimal overclock ~240Mhz.

Snes and MD emulation is very good, I tend to play ports of my fav' Amiga games because they have a few extra touches (esp on Snes) and dont need mouse/keyboard input.

If you like 8-16bit games, get one!

GP2X is a great little emulator and I'd say it has the best version of payback thats been released on any platform. I mostly use my one for mega drive emulation aswell as playing turrican, and the dizzy series on the amiga side.

I stumbled across this:

Quote
Every once in awhile I get some secrets whispered to me that I can finally pass along. Today I have confirmed that GamePark Holdings (GPH), the maker of the GP2X, is planning a new model.

This model will be called the F800 and have an 800MHz ARM processor with a 2.8 inch screen. Though low on details, it is speculated this handheld will have a rough future for it due to the changing climate in the (open source) handheld-gaming hardware arena.

Will they continue using MagicEyes hardware? Will the 2.8 inch screen be a marketing low point? Only time will tell.
Feel free to discuss and speculate via comments. I'd love to hear some opinions on whether GP2X users will stay loyal to GPH and buy something such as this F800, or look elsewhere for their homebrew gaming on the go fix.

Specs:
A1200PT, mediator c/w voodoo 3 2000, sb128, 60G HDD,OS3.9,LITEON CDR, nec 4x4 changer,External Scan Doubler,Cocolino adapter,PS2 keyboard adaptor.

Morphos 2.6, mini mac g4 @ 1.25ghz.

@motorollin
One thing I wonder is how does the resolution of it much upto amiga stuff as its only 320x240? Do PAL version games get a little cropped at times? Or are there any other issues like that as I'm quite tempted to pick up the new F200.

I was tempted before but the price put me off, now I notice that they're 'only' £100 from www.gp2x.co.uk so I'm rather more tempted as an early xmas present ...to me that is :-D
