A600 network
« on: November 10, 2007, 09:40:39 PM »
I have an A600, standard, with 1,6gb hd and EtherLink III PCMCIA card.

Miami seems to want more memory, I only have 1mb chip ram.
RAM expansions for this model are hard to find  :bigcry:

Any other program to do the job?
And.. Is there a Internet Browser, maybe something that does not show graphics?

Thanks :-)
A1200, Blizzard 030, 2+32MB ram, 4GB CF, pcmcia netcard, Kickstart 3,1
A600, 2MB chip ram+4Mb pcmcia S-RAM, Kickstart 3,1
CD32 - Just for fun  :-D

Try with AmiTCP instead, you can find it on www.aminet.net. As for browsing; forget it on a stock Amiga 600, it simply isn't worth it.

-edit-

It seems like AmigaKit has Amiga 600 chip ram expansions available.

Hi doctorq, maybe I should have asked you on Amiga.dk instead ;-)

I would mostly want to use it for FTP to the A4000 I got from you.

BTW, I talked to my friend about our projekts today, he has not forgotten it, but he is waiting for a chip to his disign. He says it is simple, but what do I know about that

Might have been an idea, yes :-)

That should be possible, but I haven't got the knowledge to guide you through setting it up. With SMBFS you can connect your PC shares on your Amiga desktop though, and that's quite easy.

Nice, looking forward to hearing about it.

Get in touch if you are about to order something from amigakit.co.uk.... I need some items myself, so might as well order together :-)

With 2MB and some creative configuration of the TCP/IP stack, you might have juuuuust enough RAM left to run IBrowse 1.12 with image loading disabled.

I've come pretty close to getting this working. Get Miami configured and online, then kill the GUI and flush MUI from memory. Ideally, set it up to go online automatically without loading the GUI - that'll prevent some memory fragmentation.

AmiTCP might be even more efficient, but I've never been able to get it online correctly.

With the A600 I feel you would have much more fun with a PCMCIA CF adapter, a CF card and a CF card reader on the PC.

Ethernet sucks on the A600, too slow, difficult to set up.

You can copy any files you like off your PC onto your CF card in seconds and put in the A600 via the PCMCIA adapter.

You could get a setup for as little as £10

How about this NetworkBootDisk?

I've successfully used it on stock A600 with Etherlink III. It has ftp-server by default, so you can upload files from other computers to it too :) You should install proper stack for regular use, but for occasional transfers this could be good.

I have surfed with an A600 and a dail-up connection.  It was slow.  I had 2 Megs of chip and 2 Megs of fast in the PCMCIA.

I thought ram for the PCMCIA was still commonly available, right?

Get one of the A602's from Amigakit.  It even has a clockport and an RTC.

I got one of those for my A600.  Took, oh, 3 or 4 days from I ordered it until it arrived.  Installation time was about 1 minute - worth every dime.
Code 6502 asm or... DIE!!

And when I someday (hopefully soon) have an A600 on-hand, uIP and lwIP will be targeted at it specifically.

I forgot to mention..
I have recently got a memory expanision for my A600. With 4*256k 30pin modules.

Without the clockport though

For the moment I am experimenting with Miami 32b "000 version". It asks for "Installer version 43", it tells me to find it on Aminet (I can't find it  :getmad:  ) or on www.nordicglobal.com but the site seems to be gone??

Maybe I should get some sleap instead of getting insane of this.. And try again another time  :-D
