Who's donated to AROS?...

With all the topics coming up of late about will you buy an A1/Peg or which OS if any do you support, I wanted to know, who's been donating to AROS? Since I just got back to work, I sent $50 US to Adam C. I know its not a great amount, but I have bills too.  :-(  Its something though and when I can I plan to send some more.  :-D

So, how many people out there are giving the AROS devs monetary support?

i cant honestly believe you would send that much to open source people to do what is ment to be their hobby...

use that $50(or perhaps more) to BUY an OS

If JetFireDX believe's in AROS and what it can do for him   then I would say he did just buy an OS... Sure AROS has a ways to go .. however once properly implemented it may become a very viable OS.

That's thier choice isn't it?   So what if it is a hobby does that mean it'll be useless? Look at 90% of the emulators out there most of them are done as a hobby and get used quite often.   Does that make them useless too?   Hell I thought linux was originally a hobby too I could be wrong tho.   Many things start out as a hobby that doesn't make them a waste of time or useless.   If people want to support someone else's hobby because they think they'll benifit from it then that's thier choice.

Not necessarily no, that being the point of the bounty projects.

Also, if people send money, the team are MUCH more likely to feel glowy and spend more time on it, meaning that it arrives much sooner and in much better shape (from the perspective of those paying) than it otherwise would.  You pay me and you get to say "I'd like that feature" with a lot more conviction.

I thought the donated money was for a programmer to work full time on the Aros effort for a month ? Still, does sound more like a Shareware kinda deal to me   ;-)  (No disrespect ment here, the OS is great)

Not me i can get linux for free. Aros has a long way to go before i would put any money to it. :-)

linux did start as a hobby . pretty sure linus torvalds modified some minux code and then pretty much started from there.

And as for donating what the hell is wrong with that.
you can donate to whatever you want. It just helps
them out and it is only voluntary . so stop whinging about him making donations.

i could donate to a project which upgrades commodore 64's to turn them into 64 bit 5ghz quad cpu etc.

Linux was a hobby now it makes him a packet as a consultant.  Fair play.

It started as an RFC on a forum about a possibly UNIX like OS for the 386 processor "nothing big, just a simple CLI kernel" I think was the phrase.

Yeah, Open Source doesn't have to mean free at every level. Phoenix and Genesi are giving some boards and a K-dollar when the first board owner shows enough progress for Pegasos AROS  :  }

I hate how people think Open Source = FREE

It don't mean free, it simply means you giveout the source, hence, OPEN source.

You can bet that many of my other projects won't be free, however, I am firmly in the "Open Source" camp.  So I will likely release the code for those to interested parties.  Obviously anything I write which goes into AROS itself is going to be totally open, as WELL as free if used within the licence terms :¬)
