Need help with crashed computer - software
« on: November 03, 2007, 07:55:32 PM »
My A2000 actually crashed after a series of power outages that also took out the UPS.  I have so little experience with a crashed Amiga that I am at a loss as to what to do.  The hardware seems ok as far as I can check it.  I get a screen with an interesting horizontal pattern but that's it.  Would the process to bring my Amiga back to life be the same for each incarnation of the OS?  Where do I start?  I want to get my bbs running again.  It's been up since 1984 - first on an A1000 and now on an A2000.  I refuse to accept that this state of being is all there is for my Amiga.

Thanks
DKD
UPDATE:  After a serious of power outages in quick succession, my Amiga 2000 running the bulletin board appears to have crashed.  Really crashed.  For the time being, don\\\'t call the bbs.  I have been operating a dial-up Amiga BBS since 1986.  Started ...

Hmmmm - UPS - you're not referring to "United Parcel Service", are you?

My normal procedure after a power outage would be to restart the damn thing...

Could you describe a bit more in detail, what you mean with "an interesting horizontal pattern"?
Perhaps by linking an screenshot?

Depends on the reason why its not working correctly.

The "switching on the maschine" should be the same - no matter which OS version you use.

If the problem is related to the OS, there might be differences.

Which OS version do you use?

I'd say lets get the maschine to boot first.

More information about your system would be very helpful to get an picture of your system.

What CPU/Turbo Board do you use?
How many CHIPMEM does your system have?
How many FASTMEM?
Does the A2k have an harddrive?
What other expansions are fitted to your maschine (graphics card, sound card, NIC or the like)?
All the best,

This does not sound like a software problem, more like the video chips have died or something like that.

Bye,
