More I/O's means more pins, and the pinout will be different

The both have 208 pin packages so the solder pads match. It depends on how differnt the pin outs are and IF they are otherwise funtionally compatible.

@freqmax

Great stuff, thanks. Much prettier than the pdf spec sheets I was looking at. :-P

I hope others find it useful. With the dollar in a slide, I figure even those outside the USA might find the prices better than purchasing with their own currency locally. All the more reason I tried to make it all RoHS compliant.

I wonder if anyone has figured out how to change the MiniMig from PAL to NTSC?

I'm just happy that it has VGA so I can get away from the old monitors and TV's. If I were able to connect my video toaster to minimig, then I'd probably be interested in NTSC. Otherwise I don't see needing it for myself.

I will delay my MiniMig assembly until a way to make it NTSC is discovered.

You could still build it, attach a VGA monitor, then mod it later when and if NTSC gets worked out.

Plaz

Just saw this (late reading it) and I guess I don't really need to worry about the PAL vs NTSC problem with it having VGA output.  I don't know what problems I will run into when trying to run NTSC games on the PAL Minimig though?  Will it work still, or will there be display problems, timing problems even though I am looking at the VGA display?
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Ah the old threads are the best, anyway, here's my slightly revised list, revised because PCC101CGCT-ND was labelled as PCC470CGCT-ND which might have caused some confusion:

I'm buying parts here in the UK now that I've been paid. It looks like FGPA and SRAM should be in quite soon, around about the 9th december. However the LEDs and a whole bunch of other parts are on back order until the END of JANUARY 2008.

Also some of those parts from the original list are US only. I haven't checked the US site yet to see about shipping.

The sub-total for 2x the above list (as i'm buying for two MiniMigs) is £92.78

Good to know for next time. Luckily that's one part I don't need to worry about as my friend (myself and a friend are building these) has a samples account with them so has got our PICs for free :-D

I am sure you all know but with the Core Ported to the Altera DE1 (150 USD) there is less need build your own FPGA board.

A small adapter will be needed for the joystick ports and a couple of components added to allow a mouse to be plugged in. I think if all you want to do is run the Minimig Core then the Altera DE1 looks a better option. I think actually the Altera DE1 is a better option all round but YMMV.

The DE1 will also be much better at running any large non 68000 designs as the FPGA is bigger than on Dennis's board.

As I said in the other thread I have 5 DE1's on the way to the UK from Taiwan. I have not decided yet how many of those I will sell on.

To those in the US who think I am crazy, buying things from outside the EC in the UK is a major pain with carriage, fees and VAT to pay. The carriage and fees are pretty much the same no matter how many you buy, which makes it cheaper per board the more you order.

I hope to get my Minimig DE1 running in the next week. I can report back here if people want.

Ah yes but the building of our own is, for me, something of a dream having seen everything from Dennis' first post through to the open sourcing of the whole design. I want to hold one that I've built in my own hands... and then play Syndicate on it :-D

Plus by doing it ourselves we can have a constantly evolving hardware platform that is truly our own. Hence why I'm spending more time learning to use gEDA than I am with my shiny new GeForce 8800GT that arrived the other day!! :S I want to make something great into something better that others can benefit from!

We, the amiga community, are what is great about what remains of the amiga. So know _we_ get to make of this MiniMig what we want of the Amiga.

@AJCopland

I fully agree.
Minimig will never be the same on a dev board.

Don't get me wrong. I think the DE1/2 effort is fantastic and I take my hat of to Tobias (Number One, Make it so! Engage!).

In fact I received my DE2 today!

But I have built and am building V1.1 Minimigs and it's great to have these out in the wild for reference and kudos.

I intend to try and design a bespoke board for the Altera and build it - unless someone else beats me to it with an equal or better design!  :-)

I know exactly what you are talking about.

I was very tempted to buy a mini morph platform until I realised it was very much tied to  a 68000 based system.

The achievement that tobiflex has come up with is that the   achievie profoundly changes what can be done with this FPGA platform.

Thanks for putting that list together Plaz. I've put it into Digikey and the following items are out of stock:

122-1519-ND IC SPARTAN-3 FPGA 400K 208-PQFP
P833-ND 100UF 16V MINI ALUM ELECT (KA)
P8008S-ND 6MM LIGHT TOUCH SWITCH 160GF

The SD card connector came up as discontinued.
361-1025-1-ND CONN MULTIMEDIA CARD PUSHPULL

Does anyone know of anywhere to get the spartan? I've trawled the web earlier and came up with nothing, most places require minimum order sizes. Nuhorizons are also out of stock on the spartan but have a slightly shorter lead time (4 weeks). Either way, digikey or nuhorizons, its still going to be some time in December and I wanted to get this project off the ground before then  :-)

Its really cool to see the new amiga hardware being created by the users, very exciting times indeed! Thanks Dennis and everyone else involved!

I got 5 units from AVNET but using the account from work (they usually sells only large quantities).
The only part I can´t get is the SD/MMC connector. It is discontinued and out of stock in big electronics distributors (RS,Farnell,Digikey,etc..).

Does anyone knows where to find this card socket or compatible?

Thanks.

So this is the part you are missing:

I think this should be a suitable replacement part. It's only slightly smaller, so it should fit where the original part went, and does the same job as far as I can tell:

Hope that helps.
