Minimig BOM List for Digikey
« on: October 30, 2007, 03:49:14 AM »
Please excuse the format of this. Spaces/tabs don't seem to come out right for me when posted in a thread. If you'd like a list in a tabbed format, just send me a PM with your email. I'll probably be tweeking this more later.

This should be a complete list of parts needed to build a 1.1 Minimig when ordering exclusively from Digikey. Comments, corrections and discussion are welcome. I tried my best to build this with parts that are in stock, priced reasonably, RoSH compliant and can be purchased one at a time. It took me several days to sort through all the many choices. Digikey might have had other catalog items to choose from but they didn't always fit all the criteria.

I think the code feature will let you do the right spacing.

Great work Plaz, this will help me and many others to complete our MiniMigs.

I wonder if anyone has figured out how to change the MiniMig from PAL to NTSC?  I hope someone is working on making an NTSC version some where.  I will delay my MiniMig assembly until a way to make it NTSC is discovered.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

@amigadave

Is the PALness a hardware issue with the MiniMig design? I'd have though you could just do the PAL/NTSC trick on bootup.

I personally think it's possible to do it all within the HDL software. If the NTSC monitor can handle DCM'ed colour clock.

@ Wizard66

Is it possible that you will post your BOM because you`ve already got working versions. As far as I know you`ve also ordered from Farnell.

Thanks

@ Wizard66

or only the item number of the caps if the whole BOM is too much. It would be very kind of you!

Thanks

Thanks for that link.  I don't understand all that it contains, but it is a great resource for me to learn from.

@weirdami

Thanks for the tip. Here's the list again for those who can read this small. :-)
You still should be able to cut and paste into your own doc preserving the format....

Also I forgot to mention these are US$ prices. So if you're using other currency, the price is even better.

@amigadave

I hope others find it useful. With the dollar in a slide, I figure even those outside the USA might find the prices better than purchasing with their own currency locally. All the more reason I tried to make it all RoHS compliant.

I'm just happy that it has VGA so I can get away from the old monitors and TV's. If I were able to connect my video toaster to minimig, then I'd probably be interested in NTSC. Otherwise I don't see needing it for myself.

You could still build it, attach a VGA monitor, then mod it later when and if NTSC gets worked out.

Very good question, and exactly the reason I've put it up for peer review. No I haven't built mine yet, but this is the list I'm ordering. I could go on about my long experience with this type work, but my final working build will be the real certification of course.

If any one checks closely they should find this is a part for part representation of Dennis' BOM with a few minor adjustments to match Digikey's stock. If any obvious errors are found, or a part choice is confusing, please posts about it.

I'll have updates as I get my parts and start building. Meanwhile I'm off to see if my prom burner supports the PIC, or do I need an additional socket attachment. :-)

BTW, that just gave me a thought.... No reason that I couldn't buy some extra PICS, program them and make them available to others at cost. (Chip + shipping). At least to others in north america. I don't know if that's cost effective for those needing international shipping. Oh well better find out about my burner before I go making offers I can't keep.

According to the documentation, my programmer supports the 18Fxxx PICs so that's good news. However it's not clear on how to set up the programmer for this type. More study needed.

For any people interested in development I think programming the MCU by one self is a must. Otherwise the MCU firmware can't be fixed to support write operations and hardfile.
