seriousely.... Flash is the great... for giving websites life and adding alot of features flash is great...AmigaOS and MorphOS need a browser that supports flash...
I know alot of people argue "who needs it? its a pointless feature, blah blah blah' but really... be honest...ya know ya wish you had flash...

I find flash a very annoying feature of many sites, it's just not needed imho.  Although I do agree we need a flash plugin for amigaos.

I have a love/hate relationship with Flash.

I think in a lot of cases Flash is not used properly.

I reallllllly detest going to a website and the first thing I see is this fancy flash anim that really doesn't help me get to any of the information I want from the site.  Yes, there are skip buttons, but if "skip" is the first thing I press then WHY bother putting it up.  You also just end up annoying everyone else that might visit your site more then once.

Sites that are perhaps competely programmed in flash leave other problems.  You can't bookmark a page and passit around.  Everyone is stuck having to load up the flash, click on the buttons, etc (unless each "link" brings up another flash anim causing the user to wait for it to load everytime they click on a button.)

With that said, Flash has great uses especially for short interactive (ie:games) or longer non-interactive presentations (ie: anims).

I've used the flash player that came with the version of Voyager on MOS1.3 .  It works fairly well although I can't get sound, it seems to lockup voyager when I quite after viewing a flash anim.  I'd be certainly happy to have access to an updated and crash-proof flash player, but personally I would want more things before. :P  (Considering I make my living as a Java devoloper, I would prefer getting a JVM myself, but we all have our own preferences. :P)

The problem with Java development is that Amiga desperately needs Sun on it's side to get all the aditional extras that are needed for serious development such as the JMF, Entaprise beans etc etc.

As far as I'm concerned Flash, and anyone who develops Flash clips, except the odd amusing one, can all go to Hell and burn :-)

I have a script to toggle Flash in Mozilla if I want it.  It renames a DLL, works on the fly without starting Mozilla.  I enable Flash maybe once a month if that.  Otherwise, its another useless annoying way for CPU usage to get eaten.

I use flash for buttons, embedded video, etc etc...its got alot of great features... I agree its often over-used...or mis-used...but its great ... all in all its a very useful tool...
the general public loves flash... and I've gotten to appreciate it... a site is a dead un-moving thing...add some flash... flash buttons, sounds, animation, etc they give sites life... animated gif's suck for any real work because they get so big... flash? tiny... I use toon boom studio and swish to do all the flash I do... and its great!.
@mikeymike

if you have a CPU faster then 300mhz ... flash will work fine...

Yes, the Flash works fine, just there's half the CPU time missing!  I'm talking about this spec PC too!

For example, usually on tomshardware.com, there's a vertical banner that is probably 600 pixels in height and 100 in width.  That absolutely canes CPU time.

Then there's the more-often-than-not BONEHEADED uses of Flash, like this one [Iiyama UK], which is a real shame because I like the company and their products.  I'm sorry sir, your back button won't work because we can't design websites for s***.  Copy and paste text?  I'm afraid we can't let you do that Dave...

I love Flash, but ONLY for cartoons.  For anything else, like MikeyMike said, it sucks major CPU cycles, especially when used for banners.  But, you can't force people to use technology properly.

Internet Explorer is a REAL pain in this respect, because it offers no option to disable Flash only, or at least ask which Flash files you want to play.  Everything is enabled or disabled all at once by toggling ActiveX.  I have my settings set to "promt", and just about every corporate webpages asks me 3-5 times if I want ActiveX to run.

I'm using Mozilla more and more, but I just can't seem to make it my default browser.

This, general poor security implementation and Mozilla's better bookmarks system were the reasons why I changed browsers.

Flash started it's carrier as "Future Splash". It was a catastrophic application, just as early flash - never the less, Flash has become popular. This resulted in that with it's 6.0 version it's now somewhat usable now.

It still has annoying bugs from the initial release though, along with some nonsense functions in the FlashMX editor.

It has the ability to make ppl think it's more than what it is - but I won't like it just because of that. It is good for what it was intended for though - 2D vector/spline animation and display.

With the last versions it's now able to handle animations and bitmaps somewhat better, even it's language is evolving, but the bottleneck of the whole is the poor design of the original building blocks.

Just my opinion on the subject as a webdesigner :-)

If you feel that you need flash, then nag Macromedia for it.

And anyways, who needs lame stuff like HTML and XML when everything could just be all flash? Isnt that what Macromedia wants anyways?

:-)

However, there are worse companies who could be in control of the primary file format used on the web :-)
