Workbench 3.0 for the Amiga 2000 (developer's release).
« on: October 29, 2007, 03:08:24 PM »
On another (non Amiga) Commodore forum a member has just announced he purchased a bundle of Amiga 2000 stuff from a former Supra software developer.

One of the most interesting things was that the Amiga 2000 he purchased seems to have a triple OS installation.  Upon startup he can choose to boot into Workbench 1.3, 2.1 or a DEVELOPER'S RELEASE of Workbench 3.0.

As far as I know, Workbench 3.0 for the older ECS Amigas has never been archived (or known to exist?).  It seems he has both a copy of the kickstart and the beta OS in his machine.

I have refrained from posting a link or details until I get his permission to forward these.

Workbench 3.0 works great on ECS machines.  I had a "beta" copy on my A3000.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hmmm....thanks for that info.

The important part, though, is that this fellow's A2000 seems to have an pre-WB3.1 version of the kickstart chip too, which seems interesting.

I only had a developer kickstart file and RTB to use with SKICK.  If it has beta in ROM then that is at least special.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Not that special actually.

I ran 3.0 softkicked fo years before I got a 3.1 ROM

At the time I got it from the "grey" circuit :-(
(at least I made up by buying a genuine copy of 3.1 rom/3.9 soft)

My Micronik busboard for A500 has room for KS 1.3, 2.x and (dual) 3.0 as it was made prior to 3.1 ROMs. So A500 could work with KS/WB 3.0.

Well, I've instructed him how to look inside his A2000 to see if there is actually a kickstart chip (as I assumed his is softkicked too).  He has to get back to the forum on that.

The reason why I suspected/assumed it hadn't yet been archived is because Greg Donner's Workbench history page makes no mention of an WB3.0 kickstart existing for anything but the A1200/4000.
