Samba problems with OS3.9 & XP
« on: October 28, 2007, 08:50:47 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I am trying to connect my A1200 upto my Dell XP Home laptop using Samba but I am having real problems.

I have configured everything in Genesis at the Amiga's end as is stated on the Samba for idiots website (i have doubled checked an nothing seems to be sticking out as wrong) but when ever I start Genesis and go "online" i get the following error message:

route_ad: SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable

I really want to connect my 1200 to my laptop so I can download to my laptop then copy accross (as I am also haing real trouble with CD's I write to n the laptop not being able to be read by my 1200 - OS3.9 - CacheCDFS)

Can anyone please help me?

Just incase here is my SMB.conf

Here is my SMB.conf

#Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = Mshome
netbios name = AMIGA
interfaces =
169.254.111.154/255.255.255.0
security = share
password level = 20
username level = 20
log file = /t/samba.%m.log
max log size = 50
domain master = False

[all]
path = /
guestonly = Yes
guest ok = Yes
writeable = Yes
printable=no
public=yes

And also the dos driver that I created to mount C on workbench (not too sure where I got this from)

Handler = L:SMB-Handler
Stacksize = 40000
Priority = 5
GlobVec = -1
Mount = 1
Startup = "C=\\DellLaptop\SharedDocs MH=AMIGA W=MSHOME U=Administrator"

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Oh and the firewall is disabled for this connection in XP

Its just so frustrating as this used to work very well with my old XP Home laptop and I just cant figure out why it wont work now.

Update: I used to be able to ping the Amiga from the laptop but not the laptop from the Amiga. No changes have been made except cleaning up the IP addresses (there are no conflictions) and i cant ping either machine at all.

 :-(

Amije's advice is good. Samba (server) is a real pain to set up on the Amiga. It is far easier to configure your XP box as the server and use smbfs to mount the share on your Amiga.

There is a option in the extended XP TCP/IP settings to allow pinging. The important thing is that the ping is working. After that you have to check if the hostnames are working right with ping Amiga4k or ping PC.

I did it some days ago! And setup my A4k working with Samba on the PC-Network.  :-D But it was also frustrating...

Now I can connect to the Amiga using only one account inside XP. I disabled the guestaccount.

Here is a picture from my smb.conf

I can try to help you, but first pinging IPs and HOST resolution should work...
