Cinemaware needs your help!!
« on: October 20, 2007, 09:49:54 AM »
The guys at Cinemaware are looking for original copies of some of their classic Amiga games. Therefore, if you have any of the classic Amiga games mentioned by Cinemaware at their forum here they will appreciate it alot if you provide them with adf copies of them.

Do we think they're the next ones to get AInc to sell them as PC games, so people can play then on Windows "for the first time"?

@moto

It's the first thought that went through my head.

I never understand companies that maintain poor archives.

Your "reward" for helping them is a copy of the new product.  Well, that doesn't cut it.  If I have cherished these games all these years and they value it at one copy of their new product they can forget it.

Maybe I'd hex in a derogatory comment about Ainc and see if it gets past quality control.  That would be fun.

the adf files they have on their site are all cracked versions. They will happily accept adf files of original games (I have supplied them with Wings, It Came from the Desert and Rocket Ranger). The reason they have poor archives is that the original Cinemaware went bust many years ago, a few years ago some of the original people from Cinemaware revived the company and they have started from scratch regarding archives.
I did tell them about e-bay, but since they're also happy with getting adf images I figured that the Amiga community wouldn't mind helping along.... hope I am not proven wrong!!!

They wanted a copy and not your original disk. How can you value a copy of a disk that much?
I would happily help if i still had any of these games.

I think they deserve some help, considering they also released their classic games for free.

I figured the original games were lost for such reasons.

Don't get me wrong, I'd help them if I could, but I'm away on business for a few weeks and I'm sure that they'll have located some ADFs by then.  If not, I should have a few original disks somewhere including Defender of the Crown (and I bought their updated version for the PC a couple of months ago - and it's crap), SDI, Sinbad & the Throne of the Falcon, Rocket Ranger, ICFTD & Ant Heads.  The question is, will the disks still work...

Sadly you do not need to go bankrupt to have non-existant archives. Most game companies forget do not save a copy of their finished games or the source files required to build them. If you do not believe me take a look at all the re-releases of old dos games; they will not re-release games that were heavily copy-protected or that required specific 3d hardware and not one of them has been recompiled to work in modern operative systems.

Maybe Im being a little daft here.

But what about caps, sps and tosec?

I have a 'friend' who I know came across an un-cracked copy of defender of the crown the other day, originating from one of those tosec archieve thingies.

I would assume this would be the first port of call for cinemaware. After after all Tosec sps and Caps rant on about how they are not about being pirates they are about preserving history.

Maybe Im missing something?

If your gonna be daft, be daft punk!

Folks, folks folks!   they are asking the best people they can possibly ask for such a favor.........Amigans!

lets just supply the favor....period.

I think what they really want is Boxed originals with manuals and all...........perhaps they want to reproduce them.  who knows......

but certainly lots of you probably have copies lying around that you dont use............especally since the games are free to download and we use WHDload.......and have no need for the box and manuals.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

They seem to say the need these originals for their new product. A bundled rerelease for xbox and playstation?
Hmmm, Thought I had one of the requests here.... looks like I have "It came from the desert I" handy, but I don't see "ICFTD II". Fun games way back in the day. Now how bad do I wan't dig through all my old stuff for #2......
