active termination
« on: October 18, 2007, 07:34:13 AM »
I got 68pin SCSI HDD (IBM) that won't work with simple 'passive' adapter. The HDD doesn't seem to have jumper for termination.
IIRC there is a simple schematics to make it work on 50pin controller, does anyone have it?

Here are the 50pin and 68pin pinouts:

I couldn't get 68 pin devices to work with a 50 pin cable/terminator. I had to change the cable and terminators for 68 pin ones.

I don't think the way of termination is the problem - I think using a narrow terminator with a wide drive is.

Some wide SCSI devices insist on proper termination of the full bus, so if you're just terminating the lower half (narrow), they won't work. Better get a wide terminator, an adapter with half terminator or like moto suggested, switch your cabling to wide.

U2W devices lack a termination option in general, if it's an SCA drive, you can get a terminating adapter.
