I am not at all sure if this has been asked before.

BUT, since the advent of Amikit to its present state V1.4.0
Has any one actually considered getting rid of there genuine Amiga gear?


So has any one sold there Amiga gear in favour of a Amikit?
Or both use Amikit and just can not get rid of there genuine Amiga gear.

I have often wandered about this.
To be honest I use Amikit and my Amiga (in signature)I just will not sell any part of my Amiga in favour of Amikit, its nostalgia, the good old times for me.

A 030 sucks. Get a 040/40 and you'll notice a *big* improvement. Get a 060/50 and the feeling will be even better.

Sell your amiga and use AmiKit and you'll start to use less AmigaOS because the feeling isn't as good as the real machine.

The Amiga I have is in my sig and I will not get rid of it!

More so I installed Amikit, hated it and quickly deleted it from my PC. Amikit is just not how I would configure my AmigaOS. For my Amiga kicks I just use the real thing.

Well I cant afford an 040/40, as for my Amiga it wont get sold.

If I had the money I would get an 040/40.
But as Christmas is almost here and 1 wife, 4 kids, 2 grandchildren, ohhhh well there next year isnt there.

I agree - Amikit is great, very nice, but there is just something about using the real hardware that makes it feel much more like the "Amiga" experience.

Even using Amithlon - which is even closer to a "real" Amiga feeling than AmiKit/WinUAE, isn't the same as using the real hardware.

That is why I continue to keep my classics and also continue to upgrade them.  Even though I also have an AmigaONE and a Pegasos-2.  I still very much enjoy using my classic machines and acquiring rare hardware such as zorro graphic cards and accelerators.  It's just getting harder to find much of this stuff...

I have OS4 on an AmigaOne.
in UAE I can emulate an 040 reasonably well. besides, I also have the real thing !

I got rid of my real A1200 years ago and have regretted it ever since.

AmiKit is great but doesn't have the same feel as an actual Amiga. I think this is largely because Windoze isn't user oriented or a real time system. On an actual Amiga user actions always give immediate feedback and everything runs smoothly.

In Windoze how often have you clicked a mouse button and saw absolutely no response for a few seconds or seen things jitter and jump?

Amikit suffers from the same thing that all Windows based emulators suffer from. Your running within Windozes' brain dead, jumpy, system.

I travel a fair bit for work and spend a lot of time on my laptop. As such, AmiKit has been good at satisfying my Amiga cravings. I have an A2000 030/40Mhz set up in my basement in working order although it doesn't get as much attention as I would like to give it. One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of a network card. I keep thinking I should get rid of it but my fond memories and nostalgia keep me from doing it.

I dont know about Amikit but I have Amiga Forever and I think it is good, but there are still somethings that just don't run right for one.  The Amiga feel as most on here have already stated isn't there at all and well tinkering with a PC box adverse to REAL Amiga Hardware isn't even comparable.  Cheers

I will never sell any of my classic hard. I work 10 hrs. a day with computers (linux). When I get home want to relax. Don't want a 2 GB RAM machine emulating and making noise.
I really love the quiet no-fans, no-heat, just-sounds-when-you-run-an-app feeling of amigas. I love connecting to the Net with my 1200 or 600. The slow hardware. This recalls me of the Slow food movement. Maybe we can start a 'slow is beautiful' philosophy :-P

I am slowly ebaying my amiga stuff.  When I had a Pegasos I + MOS I used it entirely.  It is the best Amiga I have ever used.

I have AmiKit installed, and found it very slow, so I switched Dopus off, as well as loads of other stuff that I don't use, so I now just have a nice looking workbench, and whilst it is still slow, it is a little faster than my A1200 so I can use it if I needed to, but I don't use it as I don't really have anything to use it for.

I certainly wouldn't get rid of the Amiga. I don't see why I would want Windows running in the background of my Amiga, so AmiKit/Amiga Forever/UAE is not a replacement for the Amiga, just an extra thing that comes in handy sometimes.

I have not considered getting rid of my hardware.

I have not really enjoyed Amikit since I am having trouble installing it using Amiga Forever 6.0 Premium CD. It doesn't like this AF version for some reason.

However, I did get Amikit to work with AF 5.0 but I sold that CD. Big mistake I guess...

Right now, Amigasys 3.0 Plus works well with WinUAE and OS 3.1  for me.

I definately agree to some of the postings.

I did not like the way everything was already pre-configured.  I never used Magellan or half the programs on it.  It does make it convenient if it was a new person wanting to quicky install a fully loaded Amiga to see its potentials.

I still and will keep my Amiga 1200 and have OS 3.0 installed since that was the OS I used since I was a kid.  Sure OS 3.9 and such would be a great improvement, but I never was blessed with a fast 060 accelerator.

Only additional programs were MagicWB,MagicMenu, and MagicWB. Lol, i think thats what the programs were called.
