Converting a NEC FD1231H to use as spare floppy drive
« on: October 15, 2007, 03:50:17 AM »
 Hello ppl!

I was surfing around the 'net and don't find useful information in how to convert those little beasties to use as default Amiga drivers.

The only thing I get is how to set them to DS0: (need to swap the position of JA1 SMD resistor), but no good in where to find the 2x34 pin swap on the floppy board.

 Any help is welcome!

Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

You could try figuring it out from the pinout.

I used to know a lot about the ins and outs of floppy drive configuration from messing with various systems that actually needed the drive ID and motor select etc set properly, but nothing much is coming back to me.

Also might be worth looking at the JU257 drive conversion file on aminet for clues. If you give up on that one, the JU257s are very common and reliable, though like it sounds on that one, the newer ones don't have the jumper blocks, you have to mess with shunts soldered to the board.

 Unfortunately, not good enough. :-(

I need some deep information to hack specifically the NEC FD1231H. Not a simple clue over World Weird Web. At least Google didn't find any.

Simply move the position of JA1 (it's a little SMD resistor). Normally it sits in the leftmost position. Dessolder it and put it back in the rightmost position.

Also do this hack in order to convert the unit into a real Amiga drive.

PS: don't forget to up the rate to the picture, some people don't like it. Dunno why.

It doesn't have a ja1, only a J1

Then you need a different aproach:

De-solder pins 12 & 14 from the header to the board and cross them. That way you have a DS0 unit instead the standard DS1.

Hiiiiiiiii JL Pedro, I am a ghost from the past.:roflmao::roflmao:
Just cut the trace who go from ic to pin 12 of the 34 pin connector, and connect the pin 10 in her. After that you have a perfect work DS0 floppy drive.

Byeeeeee.
