I need some help guys over at my blog. There is a hoo ha going on over an acronym "RIA"..

Adobe folks thinks in means Rich Internet Application..

Microsoft folks are still thinking it means Rich Interactive Applications and are still using this because it fits with their software and services platform, meaning you can create a rich media enabled application that may or MAY *NOT* be enabled for the internet but generally describes both internet and non-internet applications that are multimedia enabled.

This was the original term we used back in the 1980s though we didn't make it a 3 letter thing they spelled it out.

Some of the Adobe folks who are saying Microsoft is trying to "rebrand" their term, well Microsoft isn't saying anything I AM first of all..

They don't remember that the term RIA (Rich Interactive Application) was originally coined in the early 1980s to describe applications and appeared on the marketing literature for Amiga applications like Innovatronics CanDo! and Imsatt/Commodore's own AmigaVision..

It would be nice if the community could respond on my blog (blog.donburnett.com) and help me defend that point, that it wasn't Adobe's term in the first place or Macromedia's or even Microsoft's.

The term was originated in the Amiga community and elsewhere on the Mac with HyperCard. The difference between Hypercard and CanDo, is that CanDo's Rich Interactive Application system generated stand alone applications that didn't require a "hypercard" style program or it's player..

So if anyone feels like helping me defend the fact, that it wasn't either company's original term, it would be nice to have some back up on this if you indeed remember it or still have some flyers about the products from the day, that mention this.

If you remember and want to help out leave a comment over there at:
