is there deluxe paint functionality on xp or mac

You know how you could take something in Deluxe Paint and type in some numbers and have it move around and rotate? Is there a program for windowsxp or macintosh that does that same thing, only in freeware? It's modern times now, so if the numbers could be typed in automatically using mouse positioning, that would rock harder.

Have a look at Cosmigo, for XP. You'll find right at home as it uses practically the same keyboard-shortcuts.

DPaint 4 was available for PC, ran in DOS though, so don't know how XP would like it.

You can rotate and flip stuff in the GIMP too.

Not sure if this will do exactly what you want but I recently came across some software called Mirage 1.5 and it certainly has a very Deluxe Paint(ish) feeling to it. I played around with it for a while until my trial period ended and I have to say it brought back some great memories :-)

Well, it's true that Mirage was like DPaint because some of theirs programmers came from EA in the creation of the software.

First was DPaint, then TVPaint for Amiga, in their incarnation for PC became Aura, Mirage and it is a Version of TVPaint 8.5 recent out.

I work in DPaint some time ago and really love Mirage, work in the same way like Amiga. The animbrushes are great. In my office we use it and don't like any other.

As RW222 said, The GIMP will do that - you can rotate any selection (rectangular, elliptical or hand drawn) by either typing the rotation angle in directly, using a slider control or directly dragging the selection in the image.

I used to dislike The GIMP due to its steep learning curve compared to the likes of DPaint, but now I use it for pretty much everything - in commercial and home environments.

Cosmigo, from looking at that link, has animation. That's what I was looking for, but I goofed and forgot to use the word "animation" in my original post. I'll give a gander to the programs people mentioned and see what's up, but if anyone has any (other) animation programs to mention, mention away! :-)

Mirage is a full 2D animation package btw :-)
I really do recommend it for anyone who's used Deluxe Paint.

Cosmigo Promotion is an exact clone of deluxe paint iv functionally. Even down to the keyboard equivalents. It does work with modern formats for bitmap as well.

After starting life in deluxe paint I recommend it. It's still used by a lot of Nintendo DS developers as well.
