Lightwave on Toaster 4.3 CD?

I'm a total newb when it comes to all things Newtek. I purchased a Video Toaster 4000 and ordered the 4.3 VT CD from Newtek.. says it has LW and VT software on it... can I install Lightwave on one of my other A4000's, or do I need a VT 4000 installed?

I am almost positive that Lightwave won't run on a machine that doesn't have the VT4000 board installed.

I seem to recall that there was a commercial program out at the time that would allow it however. Perhaps it was LightRave?

To legally run Lightwave, you need either a toaster card or a Amiga Lightwave dongle.   Lightrave was a hack that someone did to allow you to run 3.5 lightwave without a toaster, Newtek shipped alot fo 3.5 lightwaves before they found out what was really going on.

There was a stand alone version of Lightwave sold at one time, but the version you have on the 4.3 CD requires a VT or dongle to operate.  You can pick up VT cards fairly cheaply these days compared to what they were selling for a few years ago.  Everyone doing video is moving to digital, so most VT users are selling theirs now and it is dragging the prices down fairly quickly.  I think even the original A2000 VT will work as a dongle to run Lightwave, but have not confirmed this.

Hmm, I keep hearing that VT users are leaving because they have gone digital.  EVerything I do on My Amigas including VT Effects are all Digital...........as in MiniDV and FIreWire DIgital. WHoever is doing analog these days is insane and embarrassing the Amiga.

 I implore all you Analog using VT to get yourselves a MiniDV or Digital8 Camera with Video Inputs for S-Video and Composite.  When you are ready to Master a Tape, do it to MiniDV or Digital8.........once you have that Master you can do anything Digital with it, including Making a DVD without quality loss of too much.

You will be amazed How Good CHroma Keying is on the Amiga if you use MiniDV or Digital8 or even HD 1080i 3CCD Cameras (Amiga can Do 480i in Super HiRes Laced  1440 x 480)

Stop using Single Crap(frame) Controllers and DigiVIews and Frame Grabbers.............grab Your Frames with a MiniDV or Digital8 cam.  THe quality you will see on your AMigas is superb.

Warm and Fuzzy Logic produced LightRave. LightWave 3.5 standalone ran without the VT. I have a version of LightWave 4 beta that also runs without the VT.

Lightwave and the VT control software have separate version numbering, which may be confusing things a bit here. I believe the last are LW v5.0 and VT 4.3, and the CDROM is referred to by the VT version.

I bought LW 3.5 standalone, and I got the big parallel port dongle too.

How can you say that everything you do is digital when you are using S-Video and composite cables to transfer the signal?  That means an initial analog-to-digital transfer at the beginning and another digital-to-analog transfer at the end.  That's two analog video steps right there.

1996 I think, I have to browse my docs to be sure as I have archived (a lot of) my memory ;-)

I remember there was a cool Hawaïan guy that bought something like a hundred raffle coupons (at $1 each, ouch!) and won almost all the raffle prizes! I had only two coupons, one for each day ;-)

When Bob read mine he was very surprised as I was the only european to have attended the show.
