Occasional lockups with MagicMenu
« on: October 10, 2007, 03:40:09 PM »
Hi.
I'm experiencing some, rare i must admit, system lockups while i switch screens. (Possible conflict between MM and MCP's ScreenMenu??)
I'm not sure if i should attribute this to MagicMenu but it's the only thing i installed lately. Rest of the system remains as it was.
Does anyone observe the same problem?

Does it still occur when you hold Ctrl before pressing the menu button?

AmigaMance, maybe you use FreeWheel or somethink ? If yes, i have done a little replace for screen switching. And, it works with magic menu with not lockups

I have never tried that. I see that this combo disables MM functions. I will try it and see, but as i said, it's something that happens rarely.

I sometimes get lockups with MagicMenu on the below system.
Pretty rare but its a total system freeze. Pointer doesn't move. Screen switching doesn't work. I attributed it to an older version of Phase5 SCSI device in combination with MagicMenu as I would wait for the drive to spin up out of sleep and then click the menu and then it would hang.
I don't work directly on my SCSI disk anymore and since then I have no hangs...touch wood. But I also upgraded 1230scsi.device to latest version.

Well, now you need to uncover some repeatable test cases.  Once you can deliberately cause the hang, you can experiment with combinations of active software to isolate the culprit(s).

I used to get this occasionally, most often in PersonalPaint as I recall.  There's an option in the MagicMenu preferences, called non-blocking I think, that fixed the problem when I switched it on.

HTH!
