A1200 + HD Woes :( :(

Ok, I just got myself a 4gig 2.5"  HDD (pulled out from a working laptop). I have connected it to my A1200 but HD Installer is not detecting it...

Some points:

1. The 2.5 cable I got from AmigaKit cannot be plugged in on the red side where it says '1' on the motherboard as it has a sort of a notch on the the otherside which stops the HDD from physically connecting, so I have to put the cable the other end.

2. When I switch the amiga on, the HDD does not make any spinning noise

3. The HDD LED is ON all the time.

Any help would be appreciated!

Quick update:

1. I have filed the 'notch' - now the cable can be connected properly, the correct side

2. I have tried a pre-amiga formatted HDD I had sitting around and it worked fine. Still no luck with the HDD I wanted to connect today *

What kickstart version is it? i have found problems with 3.0 not seeing certain drives, not specifically dependant on size.

e.g. i tried 3 drives in a ks 3.0, 4.0,4.6,3.2, only the 4.6 was recognised.. Odd..

The other drives worked un ks3.1 on a diff 1200.

Some drives require pin 1 on the cable to be cut, then they don't reset with the amiga and stay on. soft reset upon power up before booting.

Seems you are right - I have replaced the HDD with ANOTHER one (60gig!) and it worked without problems
