Any rumors? Any updates? Any release date?
I had to double-check your posting date to make sure it wasn't an old thread from circa 2003. That right there should tell you pretty much everything you need to know about OS4 on classic PPC hardware.

Why would it be useless on classic?
Who said it would only be useless on classic? It's a deadend OS, classic or not.

Except that you actually get solar powered torches.
(which charge and store power during the day, oddly enough :) ).

Oh if we are going to be that pedantic, the chocolate teapot is useful when you are hungry.

(Sorry, stuck in work and I'm starving)

Rather than just keep saying its useless and a dead end maybe you could add an explaination?

Who is going to buy OS4 for classic? I will if/when released.

Are you just fedup of waiting? Did you sell your PPC cards thinking OS4 release would never come and now feel hatred towards OS4?

I think new PPC accelerators for Classic Amigas would sell and help sell the OS. Plenty people still like to use the classic to run that old software/WHDLoad at the same time as newer stuff. I know I wouldn't buy another machine just for wordprocessing /internet, for that I already have a PC, but the classic has that special feeling:)

I'm buying it for sure, "if/when..?".  This dead-end talk is a bunch of cr*p.  There can't be any clearer "dead end" than buying a PC.  On almost any day I could find 3, 4, 5 year-old PCs piled up on sidewalks in the garbage.  Thanks to obsolescence "built in", getting a PC is guaranteed fast-track to a dead end.  PCs really are fast -- the fastest way to lose your investment.

Like pretty much everyone else, I use PCs all the time.  I just view them as disposable commodities, the actual data being the only thing of value.  Amiga hardware at least retains some if not all of its value.

Any updates now we know its coming? What im asking about is software not hardware compatability. IP stack? DVD player? Browser? anything else?

It's funny you mention those particular things, because they're catered for. OS4 comes with a TCP/IP stack, an OEM version of DVplayer (to play dvds), and an OEM version of IBrowse. DVplayer is restricted to not be able to change skins or play AVI files, and IBrowse is restricted in some way I believe. I think it may be restricted to one browser tab. But there are no demo timeouts.

AFAIK os4 classic can use the AGA chips. Even u can use your os4 on an AGA screen. (of course a gfx card recommended.)

Why would it be emulated? This is OS4 for CLASSIC, i.e. amigas that have a 68k cpu. In fact since it's for CLASSIC and requires a PPC chip there must be a 68040 or 68060 on board the PPC accelerator as well.
