« on: July 07, 2003, 04:59:37 PM »
OK, Everone LOVEs to do cool lil' things with the Amiga. I triped apon this Linux flavor a few months ago that totally works on a Floppy. not only that but the preselected cards that you can choose from include the A2065, Ariadne and the Hydra. Cool or what?!?!?!?! :-o

An X-surf card costs maybe 125 euros. That's not much compared to the costs of enhancing the Amiga with pci. If you can get such a card second hand, you can get it much cheaper.

Considering you can get a retail boxed PCI NIC for any other computer for less than £4, it IS a lot of money. Mind you, Zorro cards are always cool ;-)

Where exactly on the Coyote Linux site is an Amiga Build ? or am I completely missing the point here?

I looked at Coyote Linux about a year ago, and passed on it as a proper router is only £80, and requires a lot less fiddling.

well hehe u cant just buy a mediator and USE only a network card :) ... RTFM  :)

if u have a mediator u should atleast have a gfx card also...u wont regret that anyway.. besides iirc a network card only in the mediator wont work on its own..(hmmm i am pretty sure it wont anyway....might have been a soundcard that was ike that...dunno.....grr....ok )

XSURF is a good idea...but its too costy ...half the price and more would have bought it now even,....mostly all now get themself an mediator/grexx/promethus anyway...

Whats up with all the hate!

I am using CoyoteLinux on a 486 class machine
to share my cable connection.  I currently have
my Amiga and another PC sharing a connection.
I have been very pleased with the performance.
You can run a windows install program to setup
the disk, which is very straight foward and fairly
simple.  If you are using PCI based NICs then
setup is very simple.  If you have an old 486 or
pentium machine, laying around, I suggest you
give it a try.

I have had trouble getting Genesis the connect
to Coyote, but Miami worked much easier.

b]There unfortunatly is no direct amiga loader, but when you creat the Router disk, it gives you a the list of what NIC cards are supported. The list has in it the cards I mentioned. Since it's a base linux kernal, it'll run on any CPU, hence you can make a Amiga Router with it.
