Minimig: 1st donation to TeamAros kickstart II made.
« on: October 01, 2007, 08:34:37 PM »

Thanks to the support of many people on this site we have been able to make the first donation to the TeamAros Kickstart ROM Replacement (Phase II) Bounty.

That is the good news.

The bad news is that we are half way through our run of Nusim Minimig v1.1 PCBs.

Grab them while you can!

Once we run out we will do a poll to see if there would be any additional demand.

Once again,

Thank you all for your support.

I'm a bit confused about how the AROS kickstart ROM replacement relates to MiniMig. Is the kickstart replacement being ported to MiniMig so a real ROM is not required?

Well, if it works in a classic Amiga, it'll work in Minimig.  ;-)

Hello

Minimig, AROS and the kickstart bounties are a pretty exciting mix.

Basically The kickstart phase I bounty would lead to a working port of AROS on classic Amigas including minimig.
As these machines are 68k + chipset then AROS will have achieved it's original goal of being 'binary' compatible with OS3.x.
However, at this stage minimig (and any other classic) still needs an Amiga Inc licensed kickstart ROM.

The kickstart phase II bounty goes a step further and replaces the original ROM with an AROS ROM. This, would completely open up the classic architecture allowing anyone to build on it and extend it. This includes being able to use high speed 68xxx cores within an FPGA.  :-)

Imagine the same OS scaling from an A1000, minimig or A3000 all the way to an 3Gig x86-64!

I was expecting at least one person would post soon - Nusim has sold at least 7 boards and Xenepp has sold a few as well.

Having the Phase I completed only would mean that you could boot AROS on an AMIGA/MiniMig as OS. It is not guaranteed that it will run your favourite application. The Phase II however should be "binary compatible" and include also a ROM replacement for MiniMig or the original AMIGA.

Those people who wish to Source the parts, and solder themselves.  But usually, those who can source the parts, and Solder SMC components, *USUALLY* know how to source their own boards too.
