Aye my young lord, you speack bodly and true for the lands
of Tamar are far and wide open to any new settlers who want
to bring back civilzation to these ruined land that was once so bright under the old
emperor.

But let an old man (~70 years) give you some advices, or you
might fall into the traps that so many eager adepts have found
before.

Do not speak up against Lords you do not know, for he might
be quite a bit bigger than you, and may even cultivate a short temper.

Respect nobles, cos most of them do cultivate a short temper.

Contact your neighbours, they are the ones you have to live with.

If your neighbours are even smaller than you, you should still
treat them with respect, cos those will be your best allies.

Don't claim more than you can take, or you might get nothing
in the end.

Lady Leigh ?

Something just dropped from my eyes ....

I allways wondered how Matador could know Lady Leah,
who  just settled on Nyx ( a very small island far
east from you ....

But as in real life, the more ladies the better ;)

I got Tales of Tamar free, but I never figured out how to play it (no manuals). Since it costs money to play, I haven't really tried to get into it. Not much I can do with it.

@KennyR

AFAIR there were some rounds (50 ?) included with ToT-SE
(bundled with Phoenix-Peg).

Best is, drop in at #tales on irc.euirc.net port 6667.

@balti & lempkee

Thanks, but are 75 (or 50) rounds really enough to learn how to play the game? It's really complicated-looking and I don't know how to start. I'm sort of leaving the 75 free rounds for when I do figure out the game but I keep putting it off and putting it off...

And yes, I did get the Peg bundled version. Lack of a manual is a big issue. :-(

kennyr:NO PROB!  , you just signup on the FORUM on www.tamar.net and asking for newbie help..

and explain yer situation....
also...installing the game is wise... u dont need to reg at day 1 anyway..as u can use it in demo mode for now.

but once u have regged its not demo anymore and new features appear everyday...atleast in the start!...and even me who is 10 years out..i see new features even now :)

75 turns is more than enough ...for now...its 75 DAYS!! u know... if the pegasos bundle is only 50 turns...then its 50 DAYS...for free..

have no fear we will help and u will get addicted for sure...

next time there is a new tamar tread...then its from you i guess :)

cheers

ah i forgot to mention...once u start the game...(after u are regged) u get a BARDS TALE screen , telling you what u should do...like building MILLS and grainry to make corn..
this is like your first step..

anyway the first few days u should only focus about getting and suppling them with food (your people) and TAXES ofcourse...

cheers

@KennyR

75 turns are 2.5 months or allmost 19 ToT-years, more than enough to into the game.

This is what you should do:
Install from CD.
Download the Public-CD-Update from here.
Unpack that and simply copy it over the ToT-dir (files will
be replaced.
Start game(*).
Click on "register".
Fill in your data.
Send it.

Further question should be easily cleared in the Forum or on irc.

The game is a bit slow in the first years, but you should
use these to make contacts, and learn who might be a friend,
and who not.

(*) When playing on a Pegasos you might get some deadlocks
when ToT tries to open a shellwindow for output, but this
can be avoided by starting "tot-client-debug" from shell.
