Datatype docs
« on: July 07, 2003, 10:53:46 AM »
Hi,

I've just recently dug out my old amiga and wanted to get it back into shape.

I remember the function of datatypes from years ago, but I can't find docs on which files are meant to go where etc. and what the different folders/files are for eg: classes.

I've tried the Amiga University and Amiga Realm but there's no info, I just want to have a good clean fast system.

Any help much appreciated!
Cheers,
Dave.

HI there,

I'd recommend just re-installing the AmigaOS, then at least you are starting from a known point.

Yip, I may just end up doing that.  I thought it would be a  different tactic from a PC ;)

welcome back maddog..

they are in sYS:devs/datatypes
and in sys:classes/

and you should have a prefs file in sys:prefs/

hope this was what u needed.

anyway a good tip is, install os3.9 with boingbag2 from scratch now if you have been along time away, should make you atleast "abit" happy :)
(so u dont need to think all the time, hmm where did that go and what is wrong now...hmm the dirs is mixxed....etc...)

cheers

System39:Classes/DataTypes/8svx.datatype
System39:Classes/DataTypes/aiff.datatype
System39:Classes/DataTypes/amigaguide.datatype
System39:Classes/DataTypes/amigaiconobject.datatype
System39:Classes/DataTypes/anim.datatype
System39:Classes/DataTypes/animation.datatype
System39:Classes/DataTypes/ascii.datatype

System39:Classes/DataTypes/gif.datatype
System39:Classes/DataTypes/gif.datatype.elf
System39:Classes/DataTypes/html.datatype
System39:Classes/DataTypes/ico.datatype
System39:Classes/DataTypes/icon.datatype.elf

a few examples....

and here is a few more :

System39:Devs/DataTypes/8SVX
System39:Devs/DataTypes/8SVX.INFO
System39:Devs/DataTypes/AIFF
System39:Devs/DataTypes/AIFF.INFO
System39:Devs/DataTypes/AMIGAGUIDE

Thanks Lempkee and everyone else!

It's really nice to see that I can still get good support after all these years! Thanks for all the info - I'll give my wee darlin' a good clean up some evening this week.

Cheers guys!

jaruzel: havent u used it before now? , ohwell i guess u are in for a better unbuggy time then.

maddog: no prob... as long as i know of what u ask about...then i will answer..

also since u have been away ...remeber about the muI stuff....MUI libs goes to mui:LIBS/mui/  and not SYS:Libs/mui   ..infact u shouldnt have any mui libs in sys:libs/mui  or even a folder called that as it would most certainly give u problems..

(i have a feeling your next question was that...so :) ...

steady:thanx for posting that link, will grab it for safekeeping ....as we never know when h&P ####s up again....

cheers..
