Backup software for AmigaOS
« on: July 07, 2003, 03:37:35 AM »
Looks like it's time for a backup.

I looked in disk/bakup on aminet. Most of the stuff looks rather old. I'm not interested in backing up 5 gigs to floppys..

There is some new stuff to. Ideally I want the program to output a backup file for me to store on of my network hosts.

Any advices or recomandations?

I've been using 'backitallup' for quite awhile now. I don't know if it will work over a network, but it should if the networked drives are mapped. ?? It has been quite useful for me for doing a quick backup.

I haven't tried backitallup yet, so thanks for the pointer.

Normally, I keep things in an organized mannor for back up purposes.  I usually don't back up my SYS: partition, only my data directorys (Projects, Documents, graphics, etc).
Regards,
Targhan

I recently used a programme called ABackup.

Lets you backup in various ways, the usual floppy as well as to tape and as a file. I used the file version. One or two of the backup files were close to 2gigs in size :|

Also supported checksums etc from what I can remember

If you want a really good back-up program, then you have to go for Diavolo2000 Back-Up. It's a commercial program but I think does everything you need: Backup to a file, compressed/encrypted, it can use a partition immage (if you have other FS, like Mac for ShapeShifter).

Thanks.

@jonty:

Isn't there a file size limit in lzx? I tried to lha it an the file wouldn't exceed a couple of hundred MBs.

Diavolo2000 - sounds interesting. Anyone who knows where I can get it?

"Any advices or recomandations?"

If you point your browser at our home page, you'll find a tool called BackUp, made by Daniel Westerberg. I use it pretty much and it always works quick and painless =)

It will clone your contents and not make 1 file of it though, but it's easy to use and works well on schedules etc...

Amiback20.  It works great with my Travan 8GB tape drive (SCSI).  Anyone know any backup prg that handles IDE or ATAPI tape drives?
