Help! I need a new ISP!
« on: July 06, 2003, 07:51:05 PM »
My ISP have forced users to upgrade their diallers, thus rendering my (amiga) account useless.  Anyone know of one in the UK friendly to our kind?  Must be a monthly payments freephone style account.
Cheers.

I use an ethernet router on a broadband connection... Bluyonder and BT both have solutions. If you have an ethernet Amiga then do that.

Otherwise Freeserve works fine with a normal dial up 56k modem. Free serve also provide all the needed infomation required to config AmiTCP :-)

i use these people:

http://hotlinks.co.uk/

They offer a free dial-up service, no account required.

Always handy, even as a 'backup' provider.

I suppose it depends on what your demands are.
I find the £9.99 per month deal offered by www.v21.co.uk is OK for what I do.

You get 44hrs of surftime per week, with a three hour session limit. The free webspace was recently cut back from 'unlimited' to 10Mb. That went down pretty badly with most subscribers, but ISPs seem to be able to impose changes more or less ad libitum. If you need more than 10Mb I'd now go elsewhere or just go to a webhosting service. Luckily, they honoured existing large sites, so I have ample space atm.

The only complaint I have is that v21 tends to get overloaded too easily and the login can be tedious sometimes. But like they say, you get what you pay for.

Overall, ten quid a month for six hours surf per day is OK for me. And I'd welcome another Amigan in the gang. I appear to be unique on v21, which bemuses some of the smartalecs who lurch around telling everyone how much they know!

Cheers,

JaX

Thanks guys, I went with Abelgratis in the end, who do indeed still support Amiga, the tech help guy even went through my Yam config as though it was there in front of him.  Great service, up and running in minutes.
Cheers!

How can an ISP 'upgrade their diallers' in a way that would stop Amigas from being able to dial up?

Wow!
Nice to see that some europe ISPs still support the Amiga setup process. Would be nice to ask my ISP how to setup my Amiga computer to the internet. =)

Aol do it, you can not use their dialup without using their dialler which only works on windows and mac, there was a third party dialler for linux but when i tried it, it never worked
