Is 2A each 5V and 12V enough to run an A530?
« on: September 22, 2007, 08:33:57 AM »
I'm using a power supply to run my A530 which provides 2A on 5V and 12V.  Is this enough to run the A530 without RAM and hard drive?

I just pulled the A530 out of storage in a plastic bin, static bagged, and packed to protect against shock.  The A530 was working, and now is not (pooey!)  I have another A530 which is of unknown condition other than right now it doesn't work either.

Now I'm just trying to rule out the power supply.  I'll have to dig out an AT PSU sometime tomorrow night to hopefully prove my theory correct.  I'm REALLY hoping it's a lack of power.  And anyone saying otherwise is going to make me cry  :boohoo:

Hi,
it could be a simple oxydation case like a NES cardtridge...
use a contact spray cleaned first.
Keep the Faith !

If you have a multimeter, you could check voltages on power connector.

As a second solution, if you have some other GVP devices like GVP A500 HD+ or HD8+, you can try with them, too.

I'm actually using a custom 5-pin DIN on a PC 5.25" power connector connected to power supply used for running hard drives with USB-to-IDE/SATA connectors.  This used to be run from a 200W AT PSU back when I was running the 500, 530, and four hard drives :-)

Sadly, it DOES power my GVP 500+.  I'm just damned disappointed that the 530 I used for years is buggered :-(
