Amiga 3000 fast page DRAM ZIP part no. table
« on: September 21, 2007, 10:49:12 PM »
I have made an intensive research to find all the part numbers for chips that can be used in the A3000 Fast RAM ZIP sockets.

So far I found these:

-Hitachi: HM514400AZ or HM514400ALZ or HM514400ASLZ

-Micron (Austin Semiconductor): MT4C4001JCZ

-Mitsubishi: M5M44400AL

-Motorola (Freescale): MCM514400Z

-NEC: UPD424400V

-OKI: MSM514400-80ZS or MSM514400-70ZS or MSM514400-60ZS or MSM514400-8ZS or MSM514400-7ZS or MSM514400-6ZS or MSM514400-8AZS or MSM514400-7AZS or MSM514400-6AZS or MSM514400A70ZS or MSM514400A80ZS or MSM514400A60ZS or MSM514400AL80ZS or MSM514400AL70ZS or MSM514400AL60ZS

-Samsung: KM44C1000AZ or KM44C1000ASLZ or  KM44C1000ALZ or KM44C1000BLZ or KM44C1000BSLZ or KM44C1000BZ or KM44C1000CLZ or KM44C1000CSLZ or KM44C1000CZ or KM44C1000LZ or KM44C1000Z

-Toshiba: TC514400AZ or TC514400AZL or TC514400AAZ or TC514400AAZL

All the above are 1Mx4bit fast page DRAM chips that are in ZIP package. Most codes (except OKI ones) should be followed by numbers indicating the response time. If these numbers are 6 or 7 or 8 or 60 or 70 or 80 then it should work fine in the A3000.

If your experience tells you that any of these don't work or that you have anything to add to this list, please let me know.

Yes, you can use 424256 chips too. But they only have 256k x 4 bits on each chip.

So you can have only 4 Mb FAST if populating all sockets. Doubtfully you can mix both types tough.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Thank you eslapion for putting together this list. I have a chip you haven't listed. It's:

OKI: M514402B-B0Z
40655029A9z

And thats on an a3k mobo, zip chips, mobo rev 9/02

You are correct in saying you cannot mix both types. However, considering there's little point limiting a 3000 to 4MBytes of fast RAM, I didn't look for 256kx4 part nos.

The 514402 series are Static Column DRAM, not fast page mode. These are much tougher to find but they are 1Mx4 and they are perfectly compatible with the A3000. They even perform better than fast page mode DRAM chips.

Has anyone ever found a source for 1Mx4 ZIPs?  I've found a place that says they have nine in stock and have asked them for a quote.

It seems that any place that says they have them has an unknown quantity at an unknown price, and asks that you request a quote.  Seems a bit fishy to me.

There's a guy on eBay (Item # 140159764633, four lots of 8 chips, US$48 ea.) has some 256k ZIPs, says he built a ZIP-to-SIMM converter.

Yes, of course.  Software Hut.  I've bought lots of zips from them in the past, always with good service.

So I have the top notch chips. Awesome! Guy I bought the a3k mobo from via ebay, was late shipping i think, he threw in 4mb of those chips, and hd, mouse, some other stuff. Got me setup properly.

Might be the right time to note (again):
- Static column is only faster with '030 CPUs. '040/60 burst cycles differ and are not supported by Ramsey. '060 with SC RAMs even require 3.x ROMs as 2.x tries to burst.
- You CAN mix SC and FPM ZIPs - without making use of the extra SC speedup. First bank needs to be FPM or FPM/SC mixed, then burst mode won't turn on.
