Amiga Inc not a computer manufacturer...
« on: September 17, 2007, 08:41:34 PM »
The latest Amiga Inc press release contains the following (notice the hardware-independent technologies).  They don't even mention the Amiga computer...

About Amiga
Amiga, Inc., initially founded in 1983 and re-established in 2000, is a computer software company with a rich heritage in game development and a focus on forging a path for multimedia platform development and hardware-independent technologies. For almost two decades Amiga’s software has been a mainstay for motion picture studios, multimedia creators, and digital entertainment enthusiasts around the world. For more information, visit www.amiga.com.

What we\'re witnessing is the sad, lonely crowing of that last, doomed cock.

Thats not surprising. Amiga Inc. never made computers, or any hardware. Commodore was the builder of the Amiga computer.

What it SHOULD say:

About Amiga
Amiga, Inc., initially founded in 1983 by ,  re-established in 2000 with the same beliefs as our founding fathers. We are a computer software company with ideas in game development and a focus on forging a path for multimedia platform development and hardware-independent technologies. For almost two decades Amiga’s software has been a mainstay for motion picture studios, multimedia creators, and digital entertainment enthusiasts around the world. For more information, visit www.amiga.com.

I like how they mooch off of the founding fathers and Commodore.

Years ago, Ainc had this great idea of cashing in on the "perceived" community of past/present Amiga users.

Trouble is, they didnt provide a suitable product and the remaining community is a -lot- smaller than they thought.  Also, that community has largely turned against them.

Ainc now attempt to find relevance in the broader computing world.

Trouble is, Amiga as a name is largely irrelevant in the modern computing world and has connotations of, "some old computer from the 80's," if it's recognised at all, to your average punter.

Where does that leave Ainc?

Same place they were when they bought the IP, minus some money, credibility, prospects, time, brand recognition, IP value...

I still like the theory that it's nothing more than a money laundering front-end. At least it's the theory which makes the most sense so far =).
