BBC article

Looks like he was in the copter with his son and two others.

Formal identification is still to be made.

Apparently the crash was so bad they couldn't tell that it was a helicopter and they didn't know how many were in it at the time.

Yeah - too sad what happened to my ex-colleague.

My sincere condolencies to his family.

I'd like to share with you an e-mail I received from him on the occasion of his 25. victory:

"Hi everybody,

My thanks go to everybody at Ford for making the win in Africa possible.  The Safari Rally has the reputation as being the toughest in the world and this year was no exception. Heavy rains had made the tracks rougher than usual and sometimes we were reduced to long runs in first-gear at 10 kph but then immediately followed by sixth-gear blasts at 200+ kph.

I had no problems to win in Greece last month and no problems here in Kenya, the two toughest rallies in the championship, and that proves just how strong the Focus is.  Only 12 cars finished the Safari but our Ford never missed a beat and nothing broke.  The strength and reliability of the Focus is such an advantage and allows me to concentrate on driving and tactics without having to nurse the car.

This win is my 25th and that sets a new world record so a big thanks to you all.

Regards

Colin McRae"

I will not forget him...
