Playing pls file on Amplifier
« on: September 15, 2007, 10:22:45 PM »
how do you get amplifier to play shoutcast pls files? amp works, but when i try to add the stream file in samplifier  i get a requestor "please insert vol. FILE=http in any drive"

then when i cancell that i get "Please insert vol. TITLE=1(# - 42/200) in any drive.

cancelling that leads to nothing happening!

I don't think you have to do something special to
play shoutcast playlists in Amplifier.
Normally you just load the file and Amplifier connects
to the shoutcast station.
Do you have a link to this shoutcast station ?
Maybe I can try it on my system and see if it also refuses to play on my system.

With kind regards,
Lloyd

I opened Amplifier, clicked the open button, and saw a requester with files on my hard drive.  I pasted the URL you listed right into the file field - it started playing right off.

This is the first time I've got streaming audio to work in many years (forgot how to do it!).  Thanks.

Are there lots of stations designed for Amplifier for Amiga?

I cant get mine to perform that simple task. it may just be a ver. thing I am using the original 2.21 ve which came with os3.9 the downloaded ver 2.33 works on my setup, (what version/setup are you using and how did you copy and paste in the file requestor, i assume it would still need a dir for the file? not sure it read links too!

btw you want to go to www.shoutcast.com  there you will find many mp3 streams which you can download to ram or whereever and open with amplifier!

Umm.. I have Amplifier 2.34 in use. The mentioned stream works just fine. Just select "Open URL..." from menu or keep LMB pressed on playlist's "+" button and select "URL". Then paste the url on the requester and start playing. It should also work with Amplifier from OS3.9.

BTW. check the rexx/ directory in Amplifier's dir. There's scripts for .pls and .m3u, which you can integrate to your favourite browser. After adding those to browser's mimetypes, you can play shoutcast etc streams just by clicking them on browser. No need to save anything anywhere.

I'll try this 2.34, how do you get that ver?
I think that's it...Im not getting that option. Not in the open or the lower file url- which will not give me the screen option. is this an installation issue then?

Sorry, I've been away.  I'm running 2.34 as well.

I think others who are more adept at setting up mime types in Ibrowse than I am, simply click a "Tune-in" button.  Amplifier starts automatically and plays the shout-cast stream.

I wish I could get there.

I got it working!

Thanks pVC!

I was missing 2 of the rexx scripts in my installation.

  AMPlifierMP3Stream-pls.rexx & AMPlifierMP3Stream-m3u.rexx

I moved these to my REXX: directory.

My iBrowse Preferences/General/MIME Types:

Mime Type: audio/x-scpls
Extension: pls
Action: External Viewer
Viewer: rx
Arguments: Rexx:AmplifierMP3Stream-pls.rexx %f

This is probably simple for others here, but I've been wanting this ability for years.  Now it works!

You know, being able to do things like this with a 16 year old machine is amazing and gratifying.

the ver which came with mine was 2.32 or something, i downloaded 2.33 from the author's site then found it in boingbag2.  I had never installed the boingbags 1,2 so i did, now for those who know how tempermental my amiga is, it started being sugglish, and hangs a bit on line...to make matters worse, now it wont even play the streams! it connects then buffers, and then rerbuffers, and sits.
I have to reset 3xs for it to correct itself speed wise.
And ibrowse links now needs a couple of quick clicks to go

I hate installing thing on my1200, its always a guess as to what will happen!

Umm, that should read:

Amplifier 2.34 is found inside the BB2 (Boing Bag 2) archive.

@ zyphoid

Are you saying that when you run installation scripts on your Amiga, you can't get back to where you were before?

If this is your experience, I find that the Amiga has many techniques to prevent over-writing vital files, and ways to track and log every step on the installation.  The user is all-important.

There are probably as many methods on other platforms, I simply don't know what they are.

I agree you're right there are programs and methods  to prevent this from happening but I usually install and go.  Sometimes this leads to the operating issues that I explained.  So I'm stuck till the next installation of a program, which may correct the os, or I re-install my OS....which is so much FUN!!!! :madashell:
