Zip drive software?
« on: July 04, 2003, 10:44:15 AM »
Hi,

I've just come into posession of a parallel port Zip drive (250Mb). I presume I can use this with my old Amiga 1200 (Towered), but I probably need drivers or something?

If someone could point me in the direction of the relevant software, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
Dave.

! WARNING ! parallele zip drives do not work with the built-in amiga parallele port since it is different from the pc parallele port.
I use a parallele zip drive with my VarIO card which has a fast serial port and a parallele port like pc have, and it is worth the money.

Hi Lio!

Thanks for the info - I have IDEfix97 (i think it's called) which should be ok if I can get the right software.

I looked on Aminet and most of it is for SCSI drives but I see there are some for parallel.

It has been years since I used my Amiga, but saying as OS4 will be coming out soon , I wanted to see if it could still be useful!   :-)

@maddog

Read carefully what Lio wrote. If you have a parallel port Zip drive it won't work on a standard Amiga parallel port.

His is the IDE version, a different kettle of fish altogether.

I use a SCSI Zip drive and have done for some seven years. It works well.

 Oh boy...sometimes I wonder about the advise given here.....................

Here is what I know......on Aminet (or maybe elsewhere) there is a hack that lets you connect the parallel version on the amiga ( ppazip.lha ).....it consists of an adaptor that you have to make wich plugs into the 2nd joystick port and the parallel port at the same time to give it the extra signals to be like a PC parallel port.  also you can get ZIPTools on Aminet I think (just type ZIP in the search and loads of tools will come up) that lets you format the ZIP disks wether you have the parallel version or the internal IDE version or even the SCSI.   I have an external ZIP 250mb for my 1200 as well but I dare not make that adaptor since I also have an internal IDE version, which I plan to get running soon. Here is the Aminet link:

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...
