Silversurfer as mouse port?
« on: September 14, 2007, 12:35:55 PM »
I have just got a used a1200 motherboard and noticed that its missing one of the mouse ports and its connector. The seller has included with the motherboard a silversurfer, and it comes complete with a PC serial type adapter to 9 pin male.

Should I throw abuse at the seller, or this setup can be used with a normal Amiga mouse?

Thanks!

You could load some software to use a serial mouse, but it's not a good solution as it's not available from cold boot.

You'd better repair the mouse 9-pin connector.

Then the daughterboard must have been snapped off, since it's completely attached to the board. On other revisions however, the mouseport is just a little flatcable with a 9-pins connector, just like in this picture:

If you are just a very little bit handy, it's easy to make one yourself. Just rip apart a standard (IDE) flatcable and a serial port from an old pc and do some soldering. There's not much that can go wrong there if you have the pinout correct.

Yup that picture is just like my a1200 motherboard. I have contacted the seller about the missing mouse port - if he cannot provide me with one, I'll get one from amigakit.com  :-D

I have Rev 2B motherboard which has the mouse port on a detachable circuit board, connected to the main mobo via a header connector.

I am afraid I happen to be the seller that sold him the A1200 board. He contacted me for an A1200 mb as his one was not working anymore, don´t know which version he had though. He wanted a turboboard and so I sold him the A1200 mb without roms with Blizzard 1230/4 with 128 Mb and a Silversurfer clockport serial card for 140 Euro (=   96.6504 GBP) with shipping included. I did mail him "I have sold before a Blizzard 1230/4 with 128 Mb for 140 euro,
so from that point of view you get the motherboard and the
clockport card for free." but I didn´t know that the mouseport was missing. At the moment I can not find it, the only thing I have is a real serial port from an 80486 that can also be connected to the mb with the same cable as the standard mouse port does with this board ... but that´s not what is needed  :-o Maybe somebody has got a broken board with the needed mouse port for sale ?  :-?

Yup, Effy gave me a great deal, I am happy with it for sure.

As for the missing mouse port, I could get this for €5:

Is that all I need? If yes I'll just buy myself, and case closed :D  :-D

Do you have the spare ROM chips?

Without they you could not boot the Amiga in any way.

Effy claims the board is dead (or at least he thinks she is).

Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
