Calling ALL A4000T/PPC & Picasso IV users........
« on: September 13, 2007, 11:48:35 PM »
Amiga A4KT with 233 PPC & 64 060. Normally running Mediator/Ethernet/Voodoo5500/USB. Now stripped back to just PPC card & recently aquired Picasso IV.

Problem: Early Startup screen is Split Vertically, ie left & right. Both screens are identical but show different parts of the same Text & gadget boxes, so you have 2 mouse pointers moving at the same time. This is using an Iiyama 19" 450 Pro.

My Elbox Scan Doubler/Flicker Fixer which plugs into the RGB port does not give me a split Early startup screen on either the Amigas Early settings or the Cyberstorm PPC Early starup screen. This picasso is doing both with spilt screens?

Picasso IV is in the very top Video Slot & the card has had its Jumpers set accordingly, which are default as per Manual.

Can anyone else with an A4KT & Picasso IV confirm I have a faulty card & that it shouldn't be doing this?

Thanks in advance.  :-)

hi,

what happens if you press the space-bar at the boot-screen?

try to reset the flickerfixer to the default values.

Hi,

Pressing any key will make it appear to go into a single screen, but it's all shunted over to the left & there are still 2 mouse pointers as if the screen is split in 2.

Once you install the Picasso IV software from the installation disk, you can change the firmware settings which control the flicker fixer output (the flicker fixer itself is programmable on the PIV).
I suspect this will solve your problem.
Mac Mini G4 (1.5GHz, 64MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.6
Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

Windows-free since 2011-2014 (Damn you Netflix!)

I downloaded 7.4 firmware & checked out the files. P4info reported I had 7.4 & trying to run the firmware update wasn't successful as 7.4 is flashed already.

What firmware settings should I change & just how do I go about that?

I'm guessing PVS & Picasso96 in the Prefs drawer have nothing to do with setting any of the cards hardware parameters at Boot.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

*edit*
Removing the hard drives from the system allows the Disk Prompt on the Iiyama through the PIV no problems.....Just the Early Startup Screens!?!?

If it does'nt so with no drives attached then it can't really be the hardware, can it?

So, my question to this would be, does this splitting-thing happen when cold booting and warm booting? Or just on 'warm' booting (i.e. reset by Amiga-Amiga-Control or the reset-switch on the 4kT)?

If the latter is true, then the next question would be, which workbench are you running? 3.1, 3.5, 3.9? The last two have ROM patches which remain in memory at a warm boot. It could be that these patches do funny things with your set-up.

Get a SAM, while you can! The new AMIGA is here!

I think you got the wrong end of the stick tbh! With no hard drives attatched, the Miggy just goes to the Insert Disk 3.1ROM Screen. Its all in colour & perfectly stable, my point being that when entering the Early Startup screens on Either the Miggy or the PPC, I get this split screen affair.

To be more descriptive, the screen is split vertically down the middle. On both the left & right views, you see what should be the same text & gadget boxes to click on, but they aint! The missing text on each screen suggests the two displays should be sync'd together, thereby making the text whole & the gadget Box Outlines complete. It's quite apparent on the mouse pointer & the missing lines can be clearly seen.

It does this from Cold Boot, warm boot, hot boot, havn't tried it with Welly boots yet but I'm sure the Insert Disk Screen & Early Starup Screens run at the same frequency. Heck, I made sure my Mobo jumper setting was PAL & not NTSC! ....Then I'm wondering if setting to NTSC would stop it happening!? I'd just rather not do something like setting a jumper just cos it says Free Beer & Sex! I'm sure you'll know what I mean here!

See what you mean about OS & reboot but doing it from Cold or warm makes no difference - WB 3.9 btw.

I can't get my head round this!  :-?

Try this:

Reboot and hold the Esc key down to get to the CSPPC config, go into the System settings and change 31khz Default Screen to No 31khz Screen. See if that helps.
I sold my Amiga for a small fortune, but a part of my soul went with it.

Do what Roj says. That's the reason the early menu is splitted in two. Set your CSPPC to 15Khz and Picasso4 FliFi will show the screen without problems

Could you please tell us of which revision your FlickerFixer on the PicassoIV is ?

Do you still have a A3640 processor card around or anything else not P5 or DCE ? These cards have some boot rom software too and sometimes interesting things happen with some settings when using a PIV.

And what happens when you enter the PIV boot menu and then hit the space bar ?

Spot on...we have a result. Setting the PPC System Option to 15Khz sorted this out. Many thanks.  :-)

& a special thanks to all who responded. All the best Folks.  :-)
