Installing a CDROM in a amiga 2000
« on: September 11, 2007, 03:01:40 PM »
I have an Amiga 2000 with an 8mb memory upgrade, a 1 gig hard drive workbench 3.1 and kick start 40. my question is what steps are need to get a cdrom drive working again in the 2000 after I had to reformat the HD with 3.1... I have 3.9 on cdrom but not working with the 2000 as it seems to me the best way to write adf files to disk if I can get the adf files to the 2000 in the first place. Any help or direction would be very appreciated, I am an Amiga novice but I'm pretty tech savvy.

First of all, you need to make sure the CD-ROM drive is mounted. Look in your Workbench partition for Storage/Dosdrivers. There should be an icon called CD0: - double click to mount CD0. (If you want to auto-mount the CD-ROM drive at startup, move the icon to Devs/Dosdrivers).

Well, at least that should be the easy way. In most cases you should change the device name in the Icon info (depending on which controller you have), otherwise it probably won't work.

So: do you have a SCSI or IDE drive, and what controller do you have?

You will need something like AsimCDFS to enable the drive for your 2000.

Just make sure you don't have a conflict with SCSI address between the HD and CD-ROM. If your "AMIGA 2000 SCSI & RAM CONTROLLER" is a 2091 with 7.0 ROMs, that an excellent choice   to run the CD from. If it has earlier ROMs, it will not work well, or at all depending how old they are.
3.9OS has the driver, but I still use Asimware 3.10 - It is an excellent driver. I highly recommend it.
