Amiga 3000 power supply
« on: September 10, 2007, 10:43:47 PM »
Still looking for a 230v power supply for an Amiga 3000. Would really like to get my Amiga working :-)

Any idea of a supplier in UK or Europe that might have one?

Is the Amiga 3000 power supply the same as any other big box Amiga?

Convert an old ATX power supply. I don't know if it would fit in the case, I build my a3k from parts over time and never acquired a case. ATX conversion is easy as you don't need to build any circuitry to make it work.

You have two options when it comes to an atx conversion, you can buy a connector that converts the pin arrangement from ATX to the amiga connector or you can do what I did, which is take a pair of pliers and cut the ribs in between the wires connectors and plug the directly into the amiga power connector, the shape and size of the individual ports are identical. And you can make a little mold around the whole thing and stuff a bunch of epoxy in it and blam, you made your own for 5 dollars.

At the moment I have a 110v American power supply in the computer, fitting an ATX power supply in the old Amiga power supply case might work well??? Would have all the right connectors.

What is this I hear about a clock pulse the Amiga power supplies produce?

Who sells the cable adapter?

I think you can get around the clock pulse thing with a jumper setting on the mobo. I believe amigakit.com sells the adaptor. I just rolled my own because I didn't want to wait for shipping!  :-D

I sure as heck didn't want to buy an original PS considering the prices of original amiga equipment, and it would definately be used so why pay premium for used stuff and also I don't have an a3k case so dimensions of the PS don't matter to me...

Is this what I need from Anigakit:-

ATX-to-A4000 power converter
product code: ADAPSU004

Or is the A3000 not the same?

I know where to find a 200v Power Supply, but it's a hefty 125 euro.

The A4000 part will not work as the A3000 is very different.
