AmigaOS 4.0 - what new appz are coming for it?
« on: July 02, 2003, 09:21:58 PM »
Out of interest, what new applications are being developed for AmigaOS 4, and also what are we expecting to be bundled?

Finally, I know this might be a daft question, but - erm - when is AmigaOS 4 going to be released?

I work on a software that probably will be commercial for Amiga OS 4, MorphOs, Windows, Mac Os X

Atleast something..  ;)

It's too early to mention what it's about, but i can atleast say it has to do with structured vector graphics, and controlling hardware devices.  :-)

Progress is going well indeed.. ..

Shut up, bignose!  :-D

Well from what i have read it does not look like it will run any of my old ppc software that was writen for blizzard ppc,s and as i have read that morphos can run the software. Are you thinking of getting os4 or an amigaone as at the moment it has not much writen for it.Till the os is complete there is nothing to develop with. :-)
I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

The way i'm doing it i make it work with gcc 68k.

Then i hope it shouldn't be too much work to make it a ppc-executable.

Hopefully.  :-D

One product actually announced is Candy Factory Pro.
IIRC, Pagestream has been mentioned as going PPC native as well.
Hollywood is another app that is promised for OS4 treatment.

As far as anything else? Well don't expect too much for the initial OS4.0 release. Once the OS is out there in the wild, the programming docs will be released and then the programmers can get their teeth into PPC native apps.

And SuperBase Pro 4 has been announced.... Oh yeah, and the games that Hyperion will be porting from Incagold  (link to press release here...)   I seem to remember something about Cinema 4D.... and.....

Any others?...  Didn't Kermit say there would be some updated products from Nova Design??  (don't quote me on that one...cause I really don't remember and that may have been speculation)

I'm sure there are others that are waiting until closer to release of OS4 to make any announcements.

I think ImageFX and other NovaDesign stuff was announced too, but that was in St. Louis 2 years ago. I hope they didn't drop it.

Whoops!
Actually, Davey's been real quiet recently. Busy perhaps?

As for Nova design? IIRC, they never specifically targetted OS4 for support. They always quote that they will support the AmigaOS.

Trying to get info from Kermit about future updates of ImageFX is Mission Impossible itself:-D . Nova just don't say anything about anything, until it's ready to ship. But I would expect there to not be any problems running it through the Petunia emulation, since IFX run perfectly well on Amithlon/UAE etc.

;-) Imagine version 6.0 is waiting on AmigaOS 4.0, and has been since before Gateway bought Amiga at auction after Viscorp’s demise.  (IIRC.)

I prepaid for version 6.0 when version 5.0 came out, and have been waiting for years, patiently.

@ Cyberus, hmmm, yes, very constructive.... :-)

My wish list, and I stress, WISH list:

Amos Professional, and compiler
Amigavision??
Cando
Deluxe Paint 6
(They're including Arexx, right? How about a compiler for that.)
Devpac assembler, a PPC version (I don't know assembler, but I believe it received really good magazine reviews.)
Agnus SW emulator that gives you upto 256 megs of chip ram (please, no flames)

Shawdow of the Beast!!!

Oh, and yeah, a 64 bit version of AmigaBasic by ms
:-D  :-D  :-D  (I'm pressing the button on my agent 86 ejection seat, RIGHT NOW!!!)

AmigaOne! Prime mover!!
\\"Which would you buy? The Crappy A1200, 15 years out of date... or the Mobile Phone that I have?\\" -- bloodline
So I guess that A500, 600, 1000, 2000, CDTV, CD32, are pure garbage then? Thanks for posting here.

@Atheist

Although quite a few of the programs you quote there have Modern Equivalents ;-) , you do highlight one area that hasn't really been covered on this thread yet, and that's programming.

Sure, we've been told GCC will be the compiler of choice for writing applications for OS4, and Arexx is being included, but AMOS and the like certainly helped people ease into programming, without going from bare-minimum amateur straight onto C-based full-on application programming.

@All

Apart from GCC and Arexx, what else do people feel is needed / could be useful on the programming front?
