Any true 'Technoids' out there?
« on: July 01, 2003, 11:51:44 PM »
I was browsing through the wonderful www.amiga-hardware.com and stumbled across this. Now bearing in mind I'm reasonably technically minded and have done bits and pieces of electronics in passing (while studying Audio Technology and then Physics at Uni), but am hardly an electronic engineer, can anyone give me the lowdown on this.

i.e. how is the parallel port utilised for such a thing, how do you go about 'driving' and LCD screen such as this, using an off-the-shelf IC? If I were to 'find' a similar LCD, how much of a mammoth project would it be to get a similar (or perhaps completely different) use out of it? Is it just a case of getting the info sheet from the manufacturer and a weekends ingenuity, or is this a case of real hardcore 'hacking'?

Thanks in advance guys

Most of these LCD displays come as complete packages with all the needed chips onboard. Basically, it just a matter of soldering a parallel cable to it.
