Amiga 5.25 floppy - help
« on: August 29, 2007, 12:14:51 AM »
Hallo Amigans
Few days ago I had received a noname amiga 5.25 disk drive from ebay. I have test it and works perfect, but to my A1200 format and read disks as a normal 3.5 drive (880/720kb). I want to force PC-task to use it as a real 5.25 (360kb) disk drive to format and prepear some disks for my empty and dusty IBM 5155 portable PC.
(the usual switch /f:360 for the format command, didn't accepted, as drive incompatible!!! - amiga thinks have a second 3.5 drive!)
I think all the job is from dosdrivers/PC1 right?
How can I build or download a right PC1 file for my 5.25 drive? Is that the sollussion? :boohoo:
Many thanks

You need a 40 track PC DOS driver, it's a 360K drive not a 720k.
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

If you still have an amiga 500 with Workbench 1.3 you can use this drive. Look for the PCUTIL folder on the workbench 1.3.2 extras disk. The utilities in this folder allow you to format, copy and access files in 5 1/4 DD MS-DOS formatted floppies.

Don't know if this work on an 1200 tough.

The other option is to edit PC1 to match the specs of the drive (heads, cylinders and sectors).

Here is the PC DOS driver:

/* $VER: PC1 40.1 (31.8.93)
 *
 * CrossDOS file system entry
 *
 * This file enables CrossDOS PC 360K format on the Amiga 1020 5.25" floppy drive.
 *
 */

FileSystem      = L:CrossDOSFileSystem
Device          = mfm.device
Unit            = 2 /* first external unit */
Flags           = 1
Surfaces        = 2
BlocksPerTrack  = 9
Reserved        = 1
Interleave      = 0
LowCyl          = 0
HighCyl         = 39
Buffers         = 20
BufMemType      = 1 /* or 3 if you run OS 1.x */
StackSize       = 600
Priority        = 5
BufMemType      = 0
StackSize       = 600
Priority        = 5
GlobVec         = -1
DosType         = 0x4D534400
Mount           = 1

/* The Unit field is controlled by a tooltype in the PC1 icon.
 *
 * Unit        = 1
 */

And here is the Amiga 440k DOS driver:

/*
 * Mount a 5.25" disk drive to be mounted as DF2:
 */

Device = trackdisk.device
Unit   = 2
Flags  = 1
Surfaces  = 2
BlocksPerTrack = 11
Reserved = 2
Interleave = 0
LowCyl = 0  ;  HighCyl = 39
Buffers = 20
BufMemType = 0
