Os4 and Mediator
« on: August 24, 2007, 08:40:43 AM »
On another forum site  http://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=13187#forumpost13187

Rouge who one of the member of the developer team, said that he now is working on the a1200 mediator's drivers right now. SO there will be mediator support for os4 with native ppc drivers both 4000 and 1200.
Amiga 500: 68030@14MHz/68882@40MHz/ 5.5MB RAM/80MB HDD/Delfina FE Sound card/Kickstart 3.1/OS 3.1

Macmini 10,1 PPC 1.58GHz, 1GB Ram, 80GB HDD 5400rpm, Ati Radeon 9200/32MB, , MorphOs 3.1

PowerBook 15" PPC 1.67GHz, 2GB Ram, 250GB HDD, ATI 9700/128MB, MorphOS 3.1

AFAIK this has always been the case. OS4 for A1s to be released first, OS4 for classics with PPC and C/BVision next, and finally classics with PPC and Mediator.

Then you know it wrong.
Originally OS 4 for PPC equipped classic Amigas was planned to be released first.

Then plan changed and the AmigaOne version was chosen to be released first.

About half a year back Rogue stated that the classic version got a priority bump, now that the A1 version is final.

Rogue always relpied when asked, that it was never planned to include native OS4 support for mediator in the classic version (he didn't know if it was technically possible at all), although it might be possible to operate the Mediator with the Elbox drivers in the emulation environment.

I still remember very good how he jumped at me when I showed my astonishment for supporting a dead PCI solution (GRex) instead one that is still produced, available for purchase and has support for the users by the manufacturer.

So native Mediator support in OS4 classic is breaking news indeed!
All the best,

Hyperion's plans changed over time. In 2002/2003 their plan was to first release the Classic version and later the AmigaOne version.

edit: Dandy beat my by a minute

But wasn't there something about the G-Rex not being supported because they couldn't get information about the boards from DCE? I have both busboards so I'm covered :-)

Thanks for the info though, let's see if anything gets released for classic Amigas afterall.

Since morphos is the baby of dce/genesi they will be very stupid that they allow this to happen (os4 on g-rex)

When have DCE had anything to do with the development of MorphOS?

A shame that the only way to be able to use all OSes (OS3.x, OS4 and MOS) is by sticking to the first local PCI graphics card made.
