WTB: SX-32 Pro

Hello everyone. I just recently acquired my Amiga CD32 after messing around with UAE for a few months (it's great but not perfect). Now I'm looking to turn this baby into a full fledged Amiga. Anyone selling? I know what I'm getting into and I'm willing to pony up some dollars. Thank you.

I've heard some of these expansions for the CD32 are a bit dodgy (confirmation anyone?).

I personally think the CD32 is one of the few Amigas that is good straight out the box. One controller, some games on CD and hooked up to telly via S-Video. Perfect!

Well possibly an Amiga 4000 keyboard for some of those games that can be used on the special CD32 version of WHDLoad.

you do realize that last time SX-32 Pro (68030@50mhz) went for nearly $1,000 on ebay?
they are almost impossible to find nowadays.

$1,000.00?  Wow, I knew that I had found gold when a member here called me and offered to sell me his SX32Pro a few weeks back, but I didn't realize that someone would pay $1,000 USD for one.

That reminds me, I need to dig out the brand new, never been used CD32 and install the SX32Pro to test if it is working.  I am sure it will be one of my favorite Amigas now.  Hmmmm, which HD to install?  What OS should be installed on the HD, 3.1, 3.5, or 3.9? Since it will mainly be used for entertainment, will 3.9 be a problem w/WHDLoad games? Life is good now that I have all the Amigas I have been wanting for all those years when I only had an A1000 and later my 68030 Vector in the A2000 w/Vortex 386sx Bridgeboard.

Softhut has the sx-1 for $75.00. That will give you all the expansion but no processor.

I can't help you with a SX32Pro, because I will never part with mine, but I do have an SX-1 that will turn your CD32 into the equal of an A1200.

What's the difference between an SX-1 and SX-32?

Apart from one is internal and the other external?

Never say never dave. I had two and ended up selling one about 6 months ago. So I could say I will never sell the other one, but that may not be the case, you never know. The one I sold was 25mhz 030 for $500.00. The 50mhz I am keeping for myself for now.

Well of course you are correct, but I can't imagine selling my Amiga collection, until, or unless I need the money to pay medical bills and have nothing else to sell.  Hopefully I will never be in that position.

If none of my children have any interest in my collection, they will sell it when I am gone, or when I am so out of it I can't enjoy using any computers any longer (at that point, just put me out of my misery please).  Amiga for me is one of the best ways to waste time, have fun, and produce memories and art to share with those I love.  Thank you Jay Miner and everyone else who worked so hard to make the Amiga so unique.

I've never seen these sell for $1000 but they arent the most common item, and as far as actual usability, I think you'd be much better off investing in an Amiga 1200. A nicely configured one can easily be obtained for $150-200. A CD32 expanded with an SX-whatever is probably more valuable as a colletors item than as a useful Amiga.

Wow. Lots of very good responses here. Thanks guys. I've never seen one sell for a grand but 500 sounds about right. Do any games really benefit from the extra cpu power the SX-32 provides?

I read on wikipedia that the SX-1 doesn't fit well and can easily be jarred loose. If I were to buy an Amiga PC system, would the A1200 be the best choice for game performance/compatibility?

The SX-1 is a bit of a dodgy fit. I've had a few other issues with mine.

Personally, I'd go for a 1200 with a 4GB CF Card and an '030 accelerator with 8 megs or more.

i absolutely love my sx-32's (yes I have 2 of them) and i probably will never part with them...they are perfect for my entire gaming and computer needs. I print, word process fax browse on the internet, easy plug in for monitors, ect.  I even have one with a 3.5 hd sitting on a 4x4 changer(remember those) adding yet move cd capability.  It also ran win 95..though that's nothing to brag about... I only wish my 1200 was as simplistic! :-)

A 1200 with WHDLoad installed has been able to play every demo/game I've thrown at it... so, I'd say yes.
