What the hell can you do with 300 DD disks
« on: August 21, 2007, 11:24:13 AM »
That's right, I have more than 300 of them.  Are they of any value?  Is there any use for 300 double density disks that you creative guys can think of? :)

At the moment they look like they will become a nice chunk of landfill.

I am sure you could sell them off for shipping+a little extra on ebay or something.
Or more if something in there is original copies of software/games.

People have done this?  I wouldn't mind just bulk selling the lot if someone had need for disks.  I couldn't verify the quality of them all... or perhaps I could, but the effort would outweight my concern.

I do have a number of originals.  I but I might sell that bundled with my A1200, which I believe will also have to go.

The other option, is CatWeazel.  I haven't heard whether MKIV integrates seamlessly with WinUAE.  I remembered hearing this was a work in progress.  But if I can simply use my old disks in WinUAE I might think about keeping them.

You can add one zero to my diskcollection. I separated all hd-disks away for pc-use and stuffed the rest to downstairs. Indiana Jones' grandson can dig them up in 2100 and try if the demos still work.

You could make a tech room wallpapered with dd disks.
Upload it to the net and I bet you would get some nice comments ;-)

If you have some funny colour ones you could make a mosaic

Or do 300 art projects like putting a floppy disk over the top of a glass and melting it so it folds like a piece of silk etc.

As for do they have a value, yes but its not normally hihg enough to cover the cost of postage :-(

you could open each one, fill it with any powdered explosive, then give them out for free on the street saying it's a promotional something rather, then watch on bbc world as reports come in of several office fires

:roflmao: I would try that but for the fear of being sent to Guantanamo for a few years.

There was another discussion of this.  I thought the best suggestion was that you stuff as many as possible in those prepaid mailers than come in the junk mail and post them.  That way it costs the junk mailers more and the disks have give their lives for something useful.

Well, I bought the last batch of 250 disks for $30.

Why? Well... I don't have any DD floppies for starters, and it's cheaper to buy them at 12 cents each than $1 each.

Plus it's a great way to pick up some original disks and keep them out of the trash bin.

I'd buy some if postage were ok..

Hmmm, with 300 disks you could beat this and maybe even get yourself into the Guiness Book of Records  :hammer:
On schedule, and suing

I have like 300-400 disks myself. They came with my A500 when I got it a year ago. They mostly seem to be filled with a mix of shareware junk and freeware/PD UNIX tool ports...

@jarrody2k

You could make 10 of these with 300 disks.
