Minimal OS 3.9 Disk
« on: August 18, 2007, 02:01:58 AM »
Ok im wanting to create a minimal OS 3.9 Disk for my a1200 which doesnt have a cd rom drive. I purchased a 3.9 CD and thought i could copy all the files to a temporary hd partition by mounting the drive in winuae and then install off that using a floppy disk to boot from. Basically i want to create a 3.9 version of maybe the 3.1 workbench or install disk... can this be done? if so how?

Any chance you can find a cable to hook up a CDROM to it?

Assuming the install script works OK from a hard drive directory rather than CD, another idea would be to put the Amiga drive in a PC with Linux (or maybe WinUAE?) and copy the files to the hard drive that way. Youll probably need a 2.5 to 3.5 inch IDE adapter, but those only cost about $5.

@sbeehre

If you use WinUAE to copy the OS3.9 files, why don't you use WinUAE to install OS3.9, too ?

To get a boot disk, just create an OS3.9 emergency disk and edit its startup-sequence. Remove all the mount commands and insert an assign AmigaOS3.9: hdd:temporary/path instead. (Change it to the real path, of course).

Bye,
Thomas

Open CD0 file in Editpad - the CD0 mountlist file can be found in DEVS:DosDrivers/ drawer

The unit number will either be in the CD0 mountlist as unit=1 or alternatively it will be in the CD0 tooltypes - if this is the case, click once on the CD0 icon, then goto the Icons menu and select Information.  The tooltypes will be displayed and can be changed.
