Hard Disk LED for CyberStorm's Ultra Wide SCSI
« on: June 29, 2003, 05:30:20 AM »
Recently, I replaced an 18 gig IDE hard drive on my A4000 with an 17 gig UWSCSI.  It's much faster than the old one, but I notice that the H.DISK light at the front of the 'miggy no longer lights when the disk is accessed.

:-? I've noticed the two prongs on the CyberStorm, next to SCSI controller.  Are these for an LED?

:-? Also, the 'miggy now waits quite a while for the IDE bus to answer, before giving up and moving on.  Is there a jumper that tells the A4000 to ignore its IDE bus?

Thanks in advance....

Yes, the 2 prongs almost adjacent to the UWSCSI controller are for an LED. Just wire a small plug to the 2 wires from the LED or just solder 2 wires right to the pins.. Not sure about the IDE thing though..

Hello,

The IDE disabling is quite easy, only two resistors to the IDE bus. Check out Aminet hard/hack/no4000ide.lha

I have been using that for a year, since I removed all IDE drives from my A4000. It isworking just fine.

Was the good old solution not just to cut one of the wires of the IDE cable or is that for something else? It is cut on my a4k (the red one, right?), but I am unsure if it was something I once did or if it was like that when I bought it :)

Sincerely,

-Kenneth Straarup.

Hold down the escape key when booting. You'll get a menu with four options. Click System. If you have an A4000 Desktop, turn on SCSIPatch. If it's an A4000T (not a desktop in a tower) turn on NCR SCSIPatch.
I sold my Amiga for a small fortune, but a part of my soul went with it.
