Amiga 2000 in Ikea Commercial
« on: August 03, 2007, 10:15:42 PM »
I was flipping through TV channels yesterday and landed on TNT.  A commercial came on for Ikea's line of beige items.  I've never shopped there so I don't know exactly what they were promoting...  Anyway, the commercial consisted of beige objects being flashed on the screen for a few seconds.

Suddenly, I had to rewind the DVR to take a second look... yep, one of those beige items happened to be an Amiga 2000 & 1084S monitor!  It looked like it had seen better days, but it sure was nice to see one on TV out of the blue.

If I find a link to the commercial, I'll post it.

That's all.  Just had to pass the word along to the Amiga community.  :-D

Ikea is a great store...they opened one here in Sacramento last year.  Good place to get inexpensive home furnishings. If you've ever seen the TV show Big Brother, all of the furnishings in the "house" came from Ikea...

I'll have to look for that commercial on my Tivo!!

This is the funniest (and most accurate) description of Ikea ever:

Anyway, I'd love to see a screenshot or video of this Amiga ad!

Hahah! I love the part where the guy complains about not being able to stuff his purchase in his Honda Civic. It's a good read and one of the more clever troll articles I've read in a good while.

from the article:
Furthermore, London's Daily Telegraph has reported that French labor inspectors investigated the company for working its people too many hours per week.

Guess how many hours a week France says is too many. C'mon, just guess. Sheesh. (I mean before the most recent election.)

I saw the commercial too. I did a double take. It was so quick I almost missed it. Ikea was flashing pictures of different items lasting no more than about a second each. The picture of the A2000 came and went, and I said "did I just see that?" The color didn't look right though. The front bezel looked the color of an A1000, but it definitly wasn't a 1000 and looked like a bleached 2000. Then about 15 seconds into the commercial they post a message some thing like "the world is not beige."

Then you relize all the pictures they just flashed were mostly colorless and beige and then they go on to show  more pictures of their vividly colored furniture and decorations. So was the Amiga being dissed, or did an old amiga fan find a way to slip the 2000 in to 2 seconds of lime light? :-)

I hope you can pull the recording off DVR and post it for the rest of us.

BTW, I've bought funiture at Ikea and was very pleased. You have to shop carefully though. If you buy the cheapest products from them, you get what you pay for.

I saw that spot too.... I thought the 2000 was like mine - the stock 2000 color, but the CDROM drive was a much lighter shade.

Futurama did a bit on Ikea. The professor bought a "super collider" from Ikea, but had to take it back when it exploded after one of the legs fell off. ;-)

About the only thing I seen recently with an Amiga 2000 on it was my algebra CD rom set to put on the computer.  It had tutorial videos for each section, and sure as heck during the video, i seen an Amiga 2000 on it graphing something for like 2 seconds lol, but I definately knew it was an Amiga. Im sure the rest of the classmates didnt even take a second to think of what computer that was.  :-)

I just saw it on TV too, and yes, that is indeed an Amiga 2000. Must be some retro geek working somewhere in their advertising agency! I cant imagine that an A200 just happened to be the first thing to show up in an image search for "beige computer"...
