Amiga's acting president, Bill McEwen, declined to comment Monday.

its just he didnt want to comment.
So there is still someone in the office, he's just hiding under the table :)

Maybe if they did fold, we might see new Amigas for us hobbyists.
Or maybe an official port of AmigaOS to x86.
Or something that might make a difference.

In my town we had an automotive dealer who advertised heavily on the local FM station and had a wonderful website with excellent pictures of the vehicles and staff. Kept it up to date, had music, etc.
All very good;...until it was abruptly shut down for selling cars the y didn't have title to! Customers found themselves liable for payments on loan for cars that couldn't be licensed and their previous  vehicle gone but not the payments.
There are strange businesses out there.

Folks,I think that Amiga Forever is all the "official" Amiga OS we're ever going to see.

Cloanto has tweaked it to something between 3.1 and 3.9.

I suppose if you are REAL hard-core you could build your own Amiga hardware minimig style and buy Amiga OS 3.9 for it.I see Amiga OS 3.5 and 3.9 is still available for sale from dealers,or at least their websites show it.

Of course it could be said that anyone who hasn't upgraded to at least 3.1 or better isn't serious.

Now that memory is so cheap and old Motorola  processors as well,I wonder if anyone has the expertise and interest to make a processor upgrade board for the old machines ? How many old A2000s  still could be easily? jumped up to '040. We are in "Model T" mode here;hobbyists enjoying playing with a piece of technology that was important in the development of the industry, but that has since fallen behind the standards of today.

I doubt the rest of us will ever see Amiga OS 4.0 before"the One who left us here returns for us at last"

I thought that OS4 was available, at least in a beta form. I remember seeing info about it early this year,

I think the only people who can legally have OS4 must own an AmigaONE or one of the PPC upgrade boards, per the license.

That is perhaps a few hundred or few thousand out of the millions of Amigas sold. :rtfm:

Maybe there should be a high-end "minimig". So we can have something to work with. Ie 68060 + fpga + 64MB sdram or such. One could even take a $120 dvd player and rip out it's contents and replace with a "portable A4000T".
I don't expect anything positive to come from official channels. Only lawsuits or other counter progressive initiatives.

I want minimig with PAR: so I can play 4 player adapter games.
And I need a hard drive so I can use Deluxe Paint 5.

And I need it to work like my REAL Amiga 500 which REALLY lets me switch back and forth from a NTSC to PAL display in REAL time anytime I want.  A REAL Amber chip happily deinterlaces a 50hz or 60hz signal so I don't get what the problem is.  A REAL Fat Agnus chip instantly switches to PAL or NTSC by setting the correct bit.  If minimig was REALLY hardware compatible then it would work already.

If you are going to make a new minimig with more RAM then make it use that super cheap 512MB ram that is on sale for $30.00 a piece every week.  Regular price $50.00

I need 512MB to do all the things I like doing.

1024MB RAM sticks are widely available.  It should allow those to be used also.

I have old 128MB sticks laying around being useless.  Anything 128MB or less is lame.

Lets face it, some one out there just simply don`t give a {bleep} about the Amiga.
The word {bleep}s springs to mind.

Every now and then I get very angry when it comes down to the Amiga and the people who run/used to run it and the shear incompetence that went along with them.
A bunch of chimpanzees would have been better.

If only the Amiga had the right people with the right ideas and backing it all could have been some what different to how it ended up.

I think once AI folds, the rights will go to Hyperion, or they should try to exercise that right. then, all we need is hardware - ACube anyone ?

essentially, all we need is AInc to die quickly, or to make me feel bad about saying that by delivering hardware. I know which I'd prefer

Port AmigaOS to Intel/AMD and hardware will never be pricey again.  Parts are as far away as your nearest computer store.  No more hundreds of dollars for 15 to 20 year old technology...

What we\'re witnessing is the sad, lonely crowing of that last, doomed cock.

If AI has folded I hope they created a local singularity and sucked up Hyperion with them.
