Amiga Inc folded?
« on: August 01, 2007, 02:09:33 PM »
The whole City of Kent naming debacle has me wondering, has Amiga Inc folded?  The Seattle Times could not contact Amiga Inc, the website still has the article about the naming rights on it's website

http://www.amiga.com/news/?art=25&PHPSESSID=2c8582d2d58ebd4d6186418c54102c33

It's as if the lights are on but nobody is home.  They have made the Amiga name a laughing stock (again), if I had outsourced a dotNet project to them I would be *very* worried right now.  I've dealt with companies that outsource to India like Amiga Inc, and believe me the first thing I do after their pitch is hit Google News to find out more about them.  If I saw the naming rights disaster there is *no* way they would get my business.  I mean is this the way they're going to treat my project?  And if I can't their office and got voice mail always?  Come on.

What we\'re witnessing is the sad, lonely crowing of that last, doomed cock.

@persia
This is the exact way AInc has been run for the last 5 years or so, in case you haven't noticed. Don't expect them to update their website for months.

Voice mail is quite an upgrade to previous years, when in fact "AInc" was just some PO Box...

Also, AInc filed some legal documents to court only couple of days ago. So, no, they haven't folded.

BTW, It's quite silly to post links with session id.

I do not really care about naming rights of the kent arena. I wish Amiga Inc. would just be easier to deal with (licensing, etc.) for companies that might make a few add ons for our aging computers. We could maybe get a few new items, and maybe they could make a couple bucks for just allowing said companies to support our Hobby.

If AI has folded I hope they created a local singularity and sucked up Hyperion with them.

Well, you either subscribe to the view that they are all mad as fruit cakes :insane:

or......

the only rational explanation I can think of is.....

Billy caught Penti on a good day and managed to persuade him that the Kent deal was a good idea.

Then the court case rears up.

Penti either thinks scAmiga will lose the case and/or has just 'gone off' the idea of Kent.

Penti doesn't care about Amiga or Billy the clown so is able to pull out of the Kent deal with absolutely no qualms whatsoever.  :-)

Nah, they're just waiting for the next round on the shell game...
I'm starting to think AInc. is a mafia organization to wash money...

Just checked out the Amiga website. what a laugh when i red 'Amiga began as a pioneer in computing hardware. We were first to market ' Who is speaking of 'we where first to'. It's so pathetic there atitude but i think enough has is beings said over them. No the question is where is the Amiga community heading to? Is our only future over say 10 years we all play with UAE and play emulated games for the good time's sake. People are bidding high prices for old PC's wich are compatible with XP because by that time UAE development has stoppend and we need old PC boxes to be able to run old UAE emulators so we can play those emulated Amiga games and demo's. I will be 50 around then. Or we have octed core cpu's wich run the follower of Vista use VMware to to run Good old XP wich runs an UAE emulator hmmm. Well who can tell what the future will bring. The problem is also i dont know the average age of the Amiga.org members but if most of em are from the first hour people who knew the Amiga very well and that 'Amiga feeling' will fade away and there's no new breed to cary the torch.

1 thing wich surprises me the most is why doesn't has the Amiga community a Linux kind of thing going on. Perhaps the answer is that you can't get that real feeling without the actual hardware a pity. Stange is also that the community of the C64 seems to be more alive then the Amiga one, but i can be mistaken here.

Hmm the last question is when is finaly Amiga Inc bankrupt so people with more guts and better marketing sence can take over anyone theres to do a prediction?!/!?!?!?!? Anyone 1?!?!?!?!?

If they have folded, it will mean a rough time as everyone tries to exploit the retrogamers even more.

I love the comment at the bottom of that press release..

"About Amiga
Amiga, Inc., founded in 1983, is a computer software company, building on their legacy by leading the way in multimedia development and providing developers with hardware-independent technologies for writing and porting applications to new platforms and interactive devices. For almost two decades its award-winning software has been a mainstay for motion picture studios, multimedia creators, and digital entertainment enthusiasts around the world. For more information, visit www.amiga.com."

Which Amiga was founded in 1983? Would that be Commodore-Amiga? Or Amino?  Honesty really would be the best policy..
