Enable ram on Harms Professional 030 Plus
« on: July 24, 2007, 02:55:56 PM »
Hi all!

I really need help to activate the ram on my Harms Professional 030 Plus to my Amiga 500.
I am trying to use the ADDMEM-utility to activate any ram on the board. Unfortanely the computer locks only.
I have tried to set the jumpers differently and even trying to decrease the amount of ram but with no luck.
Trying to use the AutoAdd found on Aminet, activates the ram and configures it but only to crashes soon after.

I have downloaded the Utilitydisk for the Harms-card, and when rebooting the computer and running up Workbench it soon crashes =(

I am probably doing something wrong.
Any ideas?

It is really annoying!

I have the same accelerator lying around somewhere. It's populated with 4Mb and used to work OK, but for some reason or other I couldn't get it to work with 8Mb. I've always used the standard AddMem utility that came with Workbench, BTW.

How much memory do you have on the board and in which banks (if it's not the full 8MB)?

What jumpersettings do you use?

What memory range do you specify with AddMem?

I still have a printout somewhere detailing all the jumpersettings and memory ranges to specify with AddMem if you need those..

How should I type the command together with AddMem?

I have for now 4 mb on it. I had 8 MB first but I tried to remove half to see if that would be of any help.

For 4 MB I have used the following jumpersettings: 1-0-0 and 1-0-1. on Pins 2-4.

I got some sort of jumperconfig here on Amiga.org I have been using to try with.

But if you have more info I will be more than glad :)

OK, here's the info I have. Sorry for any type-oh's, I've had a few beers  ;-)

===
Jumpersettings for Harms 68030 Turbocard for Amiga 500 and Amiga 2000

J1    ON:68000 mode
        OFF: 68030 mode
J2    ON: 4MB memory
J3    ON: 8MB memory
J4    ON: HIGH memory, range 0x40200000 - 0x40A00000
        OFF: LOW memory, range 0x00200000 - 0x00A00000
J5    ON: function unknown, slows system down from 14.3MHz rto 9.3MHz
Should be off for normal use
J6    ON: 4Mbx1 ZIP chips used

SP1   Untested, may be used to switch between use in an A500 and A2000
A500    jumper on pins 2 and 3 (default)
A2000 jumper on pins 1 and 2 (UNTESTED!!!)

Memory range with:

4MB    LOW: 0x00600000 - 0x00A00000
            HIGH: 0x40200000 - 0x40600000

8MB    LOW: 0x00200000 - 0x00A00000
            HIGH: 0x40200000 - 0x40A00000
====

I succesfully used the card with 4MB of ZIP RAM. That means I had 8 ZIP RAM chips in sequence placed as in this photograph:

Actually my card is exactly this one, as Henk was the one who sold it to me.  :-D

I think it is important to have the ZIP RAM in exactly those positions when you use 4MB, because I suspect the memory range you specify in AddMem is in direct relation to the positions of the ZIP RAM on the actual hardware.

I had the memory range (J4) set to low, so memory was in the range of 0x00600000 - 0x00A00000. Now, it's been some time, but IIRC the exact command to enter with AddMem is as follows:

AddMem 600000 9fffff

This worked with Kickstart/WB 1.3 so I assume it'll work well with higher version also.

Like I said, I populated the card with an additional 4 MB to max it out to 8Mb. I changed the jumpers and AddMem calls accordingly, but it always crashed my A500. Ofcourse a possibility might be that the extra 4MB of ZIP RAM are faulty. It doesn't really matter ATM, because I'm using a different accelerator now.

I hope some of this info is useful to you!

Thanks for the info!

I managed to get the ram ok now!  :-D

I seemed that the other configuration I had was a few numbers short, but I solved it. Finally!
